Well, I started looking at the tax stuff for 2007, and I remembered reading about a feller from across the river in Shreveport that had licked the IRS, and licked 'em good. His name is Tommy Cryer. He's an intersting feller...might be a Redneck!
A Federal jury voted 12 to zip that he was right.

The revelunt quotes are:
"The court could not find a law that makes me liable or makes my revenues taxable," Cryer said. "The Supreme Court has ruled that the government cannot impose an income tax on anything but the profits and gains. When you work for someone you give your service and labor in exchange for money, so everything you make is not profit or gain. You put something into it."
"I determined that my personal earnings were not 100 percent profits, some were income," Cryer said. "I refuse to file, I refuse to pay unless they can show me I have a lawful reason to pay."
"What I earned was my own personal labor. I am giving something in exchange. I'm giving my property and I don't belong to anyone else."
Well, I reckon I'll study on this a while longer.

Yeah, but we all know that Shreveport is an anomaly. 116 square miles surrounded by a semblance of normality (New Orleans, San Francisco, and other selected areas excluded by definition.)
ReplyDeleteI had a friend who was Virginia state boss of Knights of Columbus Insurance and all that goes with that.

He decided to not pay anything to IRS, like this fellow.
Well, the courts found a way to make him pay and he did...with 2 and a half years in state pen.
Lost his job. Lost his home. Lost his kids. They turned away from him.
He is paying regularly now.
