COULD MY MAN HILLARY HAVE AVOIDED ALL OF THIS?
Less than a month ago, my man for President of the Democrats (Hillary) had the wind at her back. It was a 90/10 deal that she was going to be the President of the Democrats. She has been tuning up to be US President most of her adult life, and now Barack has stuffed a sock in her trumpet.
So I started thinking about what Hillary could have done differently that would have (let me get my word book...) averted all of this in the first place.
Now for most folks, hindsight is 20/20. For Rednecks, hindsight is just 20/40, but 20/40 hindsight is good enough, especially if you've got your reading glasses. Well, I'm wearing mine, and I can see clearly how Hillary could have avoided this mess she's in.
When Bill and Hillary left the Oval office (well Bill left the Oval office, I'm not sure Hillary was ever allowed access in there), they made the decision to move to New York. Patrick Moynihan was leaving the US Senate after representing New York for a jazillion years. Hillary figured that she could walk into NY, and become a US Senator...which she did. She was right, and it seemed like a good move at the time.
So Hillary became a US Senator from New York in the 2,000 elections (seeing as Y2K didn't kill us all...yet). So what did that get her? It got her about $160,000 a year salary, and put her on the line to actually vote on important issues of the day. Those votes could be used against her in the future...which is exactly what is happening now. (Especially her votes for the Iraq war).
So what if Hillary had actually moved back home from Washington DC to Illinois? I mean, she'd never go back to Arkansas, and Bill don't care where his mail goes to. So what if they had moved back to Illinois? Well, Hillary could have gone out there and made a bazillion dollars on the speakers circuit. There are actually people that are hard of hearing, and others that enjoy being punished that would pay her big money to shriek at them for an hour or so. She could rack up big bucks, and save up enough coins to kick Bill to the curb whenever she wanted.
Besides that, a strange thing happened in Illinois in 2004. The sitting Republican Senator Peter Fitzgerald decided not to seek reelection. He was just a one term Senator anyway, and not all that popular. If Hillary had settled back close to home she would have been the prime candidate to run for the Senate from Illinois. In fact, she wouldn't even have had to run hard for the office. The Republican candidate got caught up in some scandal, and Alan Keyes tried to step in very late to run against...guess who? A little-known Illinois State Senator...Barack Obama.
If Hillary had been waging war for the Illinois US Senate seat, Barack wouldn't have even considered making a stab at it at that point in his political career. Today in 2008, almost nobody in the US would even know who Obama is.
I wonder sometimes if Hillary regrets that she didn't go back home and take over Illinois politics, instead of going "yankee." Don't tell me it hasn't crossed her mind.
