WHAT'S UP WITH LOUISIANA NEWS PEOPLE?

News reporters have an expression that you will often hear them say: "You all be careful out there. We want to report 'to you,' not 'about you'."

Well, it seems that there have been a whole lot of news reporters here in Louisiana not taking their own advice.

Another local news reporter for the ABC affiliate in Shreveport has been arrested for "lewd acts" at an adult film theater. Now, I don't want to be ugly or anything, and I know that everybody has their own thing. But come on...take that stuff to the house! Why does somebody want to do that in public?...especially when they know they're likely to be "reported about," rather than doing the reporting.

KTBS-TV reporter Will Moses was arrested on an obscenity charge Wednesday night after an incident at an adult movie theater in Shreveport.

Moses, 27, was taken into custody at Capri Video on Nelson Street by a member of the Shreveport Police Department's vice squad.

Police said Moses committed lewd acts while an adult movie was being shown. He was booked on a charge of obscenity and was held this morning at Caddo Correctional Center.

Moses, who worked at KTBS for approximately one year, resigned today after being released on bond.

This is not nearly the first time in the last couple of years that media personalities have ended up "on the news" in a way they'd rather not be. Shreveport newsman Mike Sieve was arrested in 2006.

Officers working with the High Tech Crime Unit say the Columbia Park arrest of radio newsman Mike Sieve took less than two hours--from start to finish.

Sieve stands charged with 3 counts of computer aged solicitation of a minor---two counts of attempted carnal knowledge of a juvenile--and one count of attempted aggravated rape. Police say Sieve arranged to meet what he thought was a 15 year old boy--a 14 year old girl and a 12 year old girl--at the park on Friday. State investigators say Sieve was meeting all three to have sex with them. Instead, the strong arm of the law met him there.

Then the story of Roy Gerritsen, general manager of Public Radio at Louisiana State University (Shreveport campus) in 2006: A local task force is capturing more suspected child predators on the internet this week. And according to high-ranking sources, there could be even more. Their first arrest this week involved the general manager of public radio for LSU-S.

Roy Gerritsen faces charges of computer aided solicitation of a minor and attempted carnal knowledge of a juvenile. Members of the Northwest Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force say Gerritsen thought he was going to meet up with a 14 year old girl in Bossier City to have sex, but he met some undercover cops instead.

And maybe the topper of all toppers! Long-time New Orleans radio personality, Vince Marinello was arrested, and eventually plead guilty to the murder of his wife in late 2006.

Vince was going through a really nasty divorce with his wife at the time, stemming from the fact that he wasn't even divorced when he got married to the young woman.

Marinello is not the sharpest criminal...and did not plan "the perfect crime." Jefferson Parish investigators found a "to do" list in his home. Some of the items on the list were "buy mustache," and "throw away gun." Security cameras caught the murder of his wife in broad daylight by someone obviously wearing a fake mustache (which he had bought from a costume shop).

Marinello had taken his gun to a firearms dealer a few days before to "make sure it works." After killing his wife, Marinello drove to Jackson, Mississippi to watch a football game with friends (to establish an alibi). People at the party reported that he showed up almost 4 hours after his wifes' murder. I guess old Vince didn't think that anyone would put two and two together. Duh!

It's curious to me that so many people that are "in the public eye" take the kind of risks that they do. These people report on others that are caught in these very acts every day...but go on ahead and try it anyway.

I guess it's no different than preachers that rail against adultery and have a gal on the side, or police officers that kill their wives, or US Presidents that have "trysts" in The Oval Office. There is something psychologically interesting to me about it.

I just have to conclude that they think they'll get away with it. There must be some sort of "thrill" that they seek. Or maybe they just think they're smarter than "those other guys."

Don't know...it's just interesting to me.
