A YEAR WITHOUT NEW TV PROGRAMS...

The news media is reporting that the Screenwriters' Union strike is about to end pretty soon. This has been a big story in the news for several months now. But I'm like...BIG HAIRY DEAL!

I am wondering if I am the only one that didn't notice that there were no new TV program episodes. I mean we've had College football, Pro football, my Man "Tiger" racking up wins in Golf, and the computer programs for entertainment!

Even without all that, I would have been fine. As long as they don't stop filming reruns of "Law and Order," "Home Improvement," "The Andy Grittith Show," and "Barnaby Jones," I'll be completely entertained!

But I think these Screenwriters might have shot themselves in the foot. This article from Britain (that's a country) talks about how folks might have "tuned out" for good on new TV program episodes.

A few quotes from the article:

"American TV networks have lost almost a quarter of their audiences because of the Hollywood writers' strike, according to new figures, and executives fear that “orphaned” viewers may never return. The Hollywood stoppage is costing the Los Angeles economy an estimated $20 million (£11 million) a day. Thousands are out of work. Small businesses, such as the props suppliers along Hollywood Boulevard, are struggling to stay afloat."

I don't know about y'all, but this strike didn't effect me none! I suspect that very few folks are pulling for the Union in this one...or for the Studios and Networks either. I would hope that Americans have got alot more on their plate than worrying about a new episode of "Desperate Housewives."

Truthfully, I think it would serve the Union right if they get what they want, but lose their jobs on down the line because folks don't look at their shows anymore. I'm not wishing ill to any of them, but history shows that it normally happens.
