Hey y'all. I might not put too much up on the computer today. I'm gonna be (let me get my word book...) occupied helping "Big Al" out by planting trees.
I ain't really concerned about offsetting my "carbon footprint." It's just that I got signed up for something by my 11-year-old son without my knowledge. I love the boy, but he will sign up for anything! I mean, they wave a paper under his nose, and he's gonna put his John Hancock on it.
It seems that his Elementary School class is planting 15 trees today, donated by Home Depot (it's a nice day for it for sure), and he had signed up to volunteer.
The ditto sheet they sent home with him says that "The National Honor Society from Bossier Parish Community College," and "Star-Base volunteers" (most likely appropriately dressed in Federation uniforms from head to toe) will be there.
The children are gonna learn about "planting, mulching, and the value of trees." It starts at 9:00 am at the school-yard. At the bottom of the ditto sheet you see all the signatures of the 15 children "committed" to be there with their parents, shovels, and wheelbarrows.
Now, this is my last youngun of four, and I've been around the block a time or two. I mean, this ain't my first rodeo. I know just how it is gonna go!
So, I have got to get up there to the school-yard and plant 15 trees with my son Paul, the poor teacher that actually thought folks would show up, and Eugene from the National Honor Society at BPCC, that succumbs to sunstroke easily (with his ice chest full of bottled water), and the one dude with the fake pointy-ears from Star-Base that has never experienced a blister (and stayed up all night in high anticipation of the tree planting).
This is gonna be a really fun Saturday!
Y'all pray for me. My back ain't so good anymore, my shovel needs sharpening (my brother borrowed the grinder and didn't bring it back), and my rusty old wheelbarrow needs air in the tire...
I just love Springtime! ...and Paul. So HI HO, HI HO...you know the rest...
Trust me, I am gonna clock my hours and send Al Grover a bill for this one!
