Hey, back in my baseball playing childhood, I could have used a "friendly ump"...like the legal system seems to be for one Shreveport area man.
This article from The Times of Shreveport tells the story of a Caddo Parish man (John Pilinski) that has been arrested 53 times...the most current for vehicle theft.
Now, this is totally understandable. After all, the guy is 34 years old...at that advanced age it would only be natural that a man would have been arrested 53 times!
I want to ask you to think about all the people that you know...that you have known...or knows somebody that you know. Of all those people, how many of them have been arrested?
In my circle, I know about 6...well, 5 for sure, and 1 neighbor that never has told me straight up (but if he hasn't, it is a miracle for sure). Of the 5 or 6 that I know, their arrests total about 20 trips in the back seat of a black & white.
So this Pilinski guy has been arrested 53 times (I am assuming here that the arrests under 18 years of age don't count). So in 16 years, 53 arrests...averaging 3 arrests per year. Now, I am assuming again here that this Pilinski guy has spent at least a month in jail (on average...could be more, but I'm giving him "short time") for each arrest.
So, you take 52 months from the 16 years, and you're looking at roughly 4 years of this upstanding citizens' life that he is being "hosted" by the Parish penal system. You subtract the 4 years from those 16, and you've got roughly 4 1/2 arrests per 12 months...we're looking at a cat that can't make 3 whole months without being arrested (on average) while he is currently out of jail.
Come on! At what point does a Judge step in and say "Enough!!!" "You are costing the Caddo Parish law enforcement tons of money and time...costing its' citizens loss of property and security...and costing this Court its' integrity!"?
This is ignorant...put the guy away for at least 10 years under the "53 strikes, and you're out" law...give the good people of Keithville, LA a break would ya!
