HAPPY "HAYRIDE" BIRTHDAY!!!!
Just a "Happy Birthday" to the Louisiana Hayride! 60 years ago, "The Cradle Of The Stars" was a baby in the cradle itself. I have good memories as a kid going with my parents and grandparents to the Municipal Auditorium in Shreveport, LA to see the stars like Ray Price, Roy Clark, David Houston (who happened to be my Daddy's best friend...we called him "Uncle David"), Faron Young, and a bunch of others.
Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, and King Elvis found a place to hone their skills in that old auditorium. Local radio legend Frank Page (KWKH) emceed most of the Saturday night shows, which were broadcast live on the radio.
I found an interesting article about a confluence of talent that hit The Hayride on New Years' Eve, 1955...
There have been a few attempts to revive the glory days of the Hayride. They have all been unsuccessful. But there is still a computer page, and alot of good-time memories from hundreds of thousands of folks that remember The Hayride.
