AAAAAAHHHHHH......CHEW!!!!!!

Well, this research doesn't apply much to me, but I did find this article interesting. You might want to look at it if you're interested in medical research things. It seems that some Canadian (that means they're from Canada), and Virginia researchers have narrowed down a bit how we might be able to one day stop the "Common Cold" in it's tracks.

I've never been real prone to colds. It seems like I have had two or three in my almost 50 years...not bad for sure! I did some minusing in my head, and I figure that it has been 15 years since I had one...not bad for sure!

What was the old saying about getting over a cold? Oh yea..."A cold lasts for two weeks...but just 14 days if you treat it!"

I remember an episode of The Beverly Hillbillies where Granny's "rumatiz medicine" convinced some squirrely Doctor that Granny had hit the mother lode, and found the cure for the common cold. Turns out that he had never taken a good shot of shine (that was a funny program...they ought to bring it back on TV).

Anyway, it seems that these researchers have discovered that genes may be able to be altered to fight off a cold.

While reading this article, I was puzzled by the fact that most folks that get a cold get it by something called a "rhino virus." Heck, if I saw a rhino, I'd sure steer clear of it! But I guess some folks are braver than me. Maybe that's why I haven't had a cold in so long.

From The UK Telegraph (I don't think they really still use telegraphs over there in England).

The characteristic effects of a cold are not brought about directly by the virus but by its ability to turn the body's own defences against itself, scientists have found.

Up to half of common colds are caused by various strains of the human rhinovirus and new research has shown the bug triggers a domino effect where the body's own defences over-react causing the familiar symptoms.

Y'all have a nice, healthy winter ya' hear!
