Well, Thanksgiving was real nice. We went to Mother-in-law's and had a real nice day.
My mother-in-law is a wonderful woman and darned good cook. But there's just one problem when it comes to her cooking. She don't know how to cook for 8 people. She told The Mrs. to bring the dressing (man, The Mrs. makes good dressing), and a sweet potato pie. So she did, and we got there about 30 minutes early to help her set up.
When we got there, Doris had prepared a feast for about 40 people. I swear, I didn't know turkeys came that big! Then there was green bean casserole, candied sweet potato casserole, real cranberry sauce (and the other kind that slides out of the can), fruit salad, mashed potatoes, gravy, rolls, pumpkin pie, banana cake, pecan pie...and oh yea, a ham the size of Alabama.
Well, there were 8 of us, so I sized up the situation, and did my best to eat my 1/8th of the feast for 40. I'm a pathetic, gluttonous sinner! But as hard as we all tried, we ended up with more food left over than when we started. It was like one of those Jesus miracle things I guess.
I love Thanksgiving, but always roll away from it feeling guilty for acting like a big fat hog.
I guess I'll eat again sometime around Saturday afternoon maybe. I'm fasting to do penance...plus I won't be hungry 'til then.
