Every once in a while a story comes along that just really gives me the reds. This is one such story from The Houston Chronicle:
Soldier's grave desecrated
From the story:
Philip Ford confronted heartache when his 21-year-old son Cody, a U.S. Army specialist, was killed in an explosion in Iraq two years ago.
Now, the grieving father is experiencing a new kind of heartache — the vandalism and desecration of his son’s grave site in the tiny Brazoria County town of Jones Creek, 60 miles south of Houston.
Some time late last week, thieves went into the Gulf Prairie Cemetery on County Road 304 and hauled away a battle cross that topped the slain soldier’s grave site — his bronzed jump boots, bronzed assault rifle and a bronzed helmet just like the one he wore in Iraq.
The thieves even stole the bronze base that supported the battle cross, authorities said.
The bronzed boots are the same pair that Cody Ford, a member of the 3rd Battalion, 509th Infantry (Airborne), wore when he graduated from paratrooper school. His family had the boots filled with concrete before mounting them on his grave.
“I don’t know if they hated the family that much, or if they hated Cody that much — why would you do something like that?” Philip Ford said on Wednesday.
“I guess they thought it was solid bronze. But it’s not — it’s bronze-plated. They’re not going to get nothing for it, even if they can get rid of it,” he said. (more)
Shame on y'all! I know they don't give life in prison for grave desecration (even in Texas). But, I hope y'all have a boy one day that...never mind, that ain't Christian...I really don't.
Just leave the stuff somewhere public where it can be found...and ponder your miserable self...if you have that ability.
