No, Shreveport-Bossier City doesn't have a zoo. But this weekend the "River Cities" will become one. Man, I wish I could get out of town...
First of all, there will be the final Mardi Gras parade, the Krewe of Gemini Parade. It is a big parade, and traditionally brings in tens of thousands of folks from OK, TX, and sadly, Arkansas. They will be all over the place...driving like a bunch of dang fools...switching lanes at will...ignorant.
Last weekend the Krewe of Centaur Parade netted about a hundred arrests, mostly stupid Arkies that can't hold their liquor. It was funny the way the local news gal reported it. She noted that there were no arrests made at the "Krewe of Barkus & Meoux Parade." The Barkus & Meoux Parade is a deal where families & little kids dress their cats and dogs up in Mardi Gras costumes, and drag 'em around The Bossier City Boardwalk. It's really pretty cute, but I feel sorry for those poor animals...riding around, looking all ignorant with crowns on their heads and all. Take a minute and look at the pictures...they're really pretty cute.
Add to that the fact that Shreveport-Bossier is hosting the BassMaster Classic on The Red River this weekend. Now, I like fishing as much as the next guy, but I don't follow professional Bass fishing. I was shocked to learn that about 60,000 people are expected to converge on The River Cities to watch 50 anglers go after the $500,000 top prize. Man...half a mil...for fishing...man... Plus, there is a huge Outdoor Expo in conjunction with the BassMaster Tournament...right down where the Mardi Gras Parade will be running. I'll swear, you won't be able to stir the rednecks with a boat oar. And I'll bet these casino dealers have never seen so much flannel in their lives!
It is gonna be a ZOO! I think I'll put some provisions in and stay at the house this weekend. In fact, if the weather's good, I might get The Mrs. started on cleaning up all these yards she takes care of...at least get some weed-eating done. Everything looks Spring-time raggedy, and she's about over the flu...
