I was listening to my local news radio station this morning, and had a "light bulb moment." Our local news guy was interviewing my new Republican Congressman, Dr. John Fleming. Fleming is a medical doctor, and a fine man. Interestingly, three of the six Congressmen from Louisiana are MDs. All three are brilliant, very conservative, and very concerned with health care issues.
During the interview, Dr. Fleming made it clear that the Republican minority is completely locked out of any discussion of health care reform, budget issues, etc...really powerless at this point! Fleming was bemoaning the fact that Republicans can't even bring bills to the floor, etc.
At the same time, it is being reported that moderate Democrat Senators are beginning to bristle at the scope of BarackO's budget. (Gag alert)...if you click on that link and read the article, there is a picture of my worthless, miserable Senator Mary Landrieu...so, you're warned.
I have also read articles in recent days about The Blue Dog Democrats in The US House, and the fact that they are having an impact on what Nanny P. puts forth...DC representation, gun control, etc.
Back to the light bulb... I suddenly realized that the only real representation I have in Congress is my worthless, miserable, Democrat Senator Mary Landrieu. My Republican Senator David Vitter is powerless as a member of the weak-kneed minority.
My US Representative has as much as admitted to me that he can't do anything. Sure, he's rock-ribbed conservative in his votes... In our Congressional election, he was challenged by a very popular conservative Democrat (A 30 plus year, tough-guy District Attorney). Their stands on the issues are almost identical. Fleming won the election by a couple of hundred votes. I realized that had his "Blue Dog Democrat" opponent won the election I would truly be better represented.
If these "Blue Dogs" in Congress hold the line...perhaps even become more vocal...perhaps even stop a few things that BarackO' & Nan propose...man, they could literally relegate the Republican Party to "whipped dog" status. The 2010 Congressional elections could see more and more of these guys and gals elected...maybe even here in my own District, which has been represented by Republicans for my entire adult life.
New Orleans Republican Congressman Cao will lose his reelection bid. His election was a fluke, not likely to be repeated...long story.
The same thing could happen in The Senate. David Vitter could lose to a very conservative Democrat...and there are a bunch of 'em here in The Bayou State.
If the conservative Democrats throughout the nation (especially in the Southeastern US) effectively make the argument that their Republican opponents can't help their Districts, Nov. 2010 could be massacre.
