COULD AN L.S.U. JERSEY REALLY BE WORTH 90 GRAND?

No, but one can be worth $89,625...if Pistol Pete sweated it up.

$89,625 For Only Surviving Maravich Jersey
From the article:

"There sadly just isn't nearly enough Maravich memorabilia to satisfy the vast desire, and elite pieces such as this jersey and other items in the auction that originated from his estate rarely surface within the sports collectibles hobby."

Occasionally I get nostalgic about The Pistol. As a Louisiana kid, I watched (along with the rest of the nation) the mop-headed, skinny, saggy-sock GREATEST COLLEGE BASKETBALL PLAYER EVER! And I mean, before, or since. I know it's really difficult to ever use the term "GREATEST." But I never have any problem using it about Pete Maravich.

Pete lived an odd life...and he was an odd cat to figure out. You can read his Wiki bio here. If you are not a basketball fan, or never saw Pete play the game, it really is hard to explain just how completely "unique" Maravich was.

Pistol possessed a brain that God wired up like few others. I've watched a lot of basketball in my life. And there has never been another player that instinctively "knew" what the other 9 guys on the floor were up to. He knew where all of his teammates were, and where all of his opponents were. You've heard of people that have "eyes in the back of their head." Pete had that, plus some coming out his elbows and knees.

In fact, I truly believe that Pete not only knew what everybody was doing...he also knew what they were going to do before they even decided to do it. He was good...he was GREAT...he was "Spooky GREAT."

His life was a sad one in many, many ways. As I said, he was a hard cat to figure out...often morose, and aloof. Pete never matched his College greatness as a professional...but made a big living, and provided entertainment.

Being a Louisiana boy, I followed Pete's career, and his life. Near the end (in his late 30's), he came to Christ, which brought about a huge change in his spirit. He was happy, at peace, and the odd gloominess was gone. He spent the last couple of years witnessing for Jesus to young people.

He dropped dead at age 40 from a previously undetected congenital heart defect.

There are hundreds of videos of Pete on YouTube, and they are all impressive. If you like watching a stinkin' athletic freak of nature...or if you just like Aerosmith, you might like this one.
