Hey y'all! Hugs, kisses, yada yada yada...
A cute thing happened on Saturday...ooooohhhh I've been busy, but I'll tell y'all about it later.
I get a lot of wrong number phone calls, as I'm sure we all do. My phone number starts with 752, and 572 is a local prefix for cellular phones, so a lot of errors are made. I used to get a lot of phone calls for The Firehouse Cafe. It seems that their "take-out menu" had my phone number mistakenly printed on it. I quickly memorized their number to give folks...but that's another story.
Has this ever happened to you?
Once every three or four weeks, this older black lady dials my number in error (I know she's elderly, and black...because I know). She's always so sorry, and sweetly tells me so. So, on Saturday I'm outside painting & my wireless phone rings. I look down on bill-collector-ID, and see that it is her. Instead of answering it, I just let it ring knowing that the answering machine will pick it up, and she'll know she has the wrong number.
My message starts, "Hi, this is Andy...etc." So, when I finish painting and come in the house I see the light blinking on my machine. I hit the "play" button and hear:
"Hello, dis heah Mary Jenkins, and I AM SO SORRY! I have dialed the wrong number dahlin', and I am very, very sorry. You don't need to call me back, because this is the wrong number. Y'all have a blessed day. Again, I'm sorry. You don't need to call me back. Well, bye bye, and have a blessed day! And, I'm sorry."
I played it for The Mrs., and she laughed. My goal for the day was accomplished...and I didn't even have to be clever.
People are funny. And some of 'em are real sweet...
