Servicemen Update...

Hey y'all! Hugs, kisses, yada yada yada...

I know that 6 of the 7 of you that visit this blog know me, and my family personally. To the other one I say, "YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE."

I often forget that one purpose of this blog was to keep y'all updated on what's up with Andy's Clan. Well, I have been less than faithful to do so. My two military boys have big doings going on.

Eldest son, Dean, has received his orders to ship to Goodfellow AFB, San Angelo, TX on July 15 for Cryptology Training. For some reason I thought he was going to Wichita Falls, TX for this training. (brain fart)

His orders are pending his final Chinese Linguist evaluation at the Defense Language Institute, Fort Ord, Monterey, CA. His final evaluation is June 30, and July 1. He's a little nervous about it. But he has done well on his other evaluations, and is told that he has "perfect diction."

There are also other complicating factors involving his wife (that many of you already know about) that may push it back. I sure hope not. San Angelo, TX is a long drive from Bossier, but it is doable. I would sure love to put my arms around the boy man right now, and San Angelo is WAY easier to get to than Monterey, CA.

#3 son, Phillip, is hip deep in Basic Training at Fort Benning, GA. He is about 5 weeks into it and doing well. We hear from him through his fiancee' (who lives next door to us). They allow him a phone call occasionally, and he uses it to call her. CAN'T SAY I BLAME HIM! Heck, I wouldn't waste my ONE PHONE CALL on me either!

He must be progressing okay, because he was picked to be a Squad Leader. From what I understand, a Squad Leader is responsible for about a dozen other guys...so he must be holding his own. His bunk-mate is the Platoon Guide. From what I understand, the Platoon Guide is the bmwic in the pecking order. Phil said that he knew his bunk-mate would be picked for that position. I'm sure they are fast friends by now..."birds of a feather," and all...

I can hardly wait to put my arms around the boy man at his graduation in early August. (Already got my motel reservations made in Columbus, GA...they got a pool, cable TV, and everything) I wrote him and told him that right after his graduation, I was going to challenge him to a wrestling match...NOT! Having been through this before, I am really looking forward to playing the "Can I Now Recognize My Son After Basic Training Game?"

Anyway...just thought I'd update y'all, and ask for your prayers for my Airman, and my Soldier. If you are a praying person, please ask the Lord to bless Dean, and Phillip...to give them steady hands, merry hearts, quick minds, nimble feet, and for them to know that they are loved...and appreciated.

Man...I can hardly wait to see those boys men.

  1. Basic Training in Georgia in the summertime? Is he nuts? People don't go there for fun in the summertime let alone to do Army Training. I would have a big case of prickly heat and just die. I do wish your boys well. They may be men to others but they will always be your boys to you. MUD

  3. Staci, will do! I don't want to get on your bad side.

MUD, yes, he is "crazy." Fortunately he inherited one thing from me...he tolerates heat well. And, my friend, I imagine that you took more than your share of heat in the service. And, yes, they will always be my "boys."
