I took the weekend off from doing anything outside. I was fighting computer wars, and finally prevailed after spending bucket loads of cash, time, and what is left of my gray matter...
So, a new day dawns...the Holiday weekend is over...and it's back to real life. Crud...
After we took care of our business this morning, Pam and I went this afternoon to cut the grass for one of our little widow women. Her late husband...we will call him "Charles" (because that was his name) was one of my running buddies. Not a "running buddy" in the sense of raising hell, or bar-hopping...
He was a "runner." Charles was older than my Daddy, and a real "character" for sure. He ran 5 to 10 miles every day. When I was trying to get in shape and lose weight over 20 years ago, Charles would meet up with me on the roads in Bossier for long runs and visits.
We would jog, talk, and laugh like hyenas! (not sure that's how you spell hyenas, but you know what I'm saying)
Charles was one of the first humans to ever register to vote "Republican" in Louisiana. I'm not kidding. There was no such thing as a "Republican Party" in Louisiana in the 1970's...and Charles was one of the founding fathers.
His widow is the sweetest lady you would ever come across. Her health is not good...at all. So, Pam forces me to go cut her grass and junk.
Charles' wife was having a bad day. But as all lovely Southern Ladies do, she came outside to visit, and offer water, tea, hospitality, etc. She wanted to know all about how our oldest son was doing (It is his birthday today btw...29 years old...man, I'm old), and how Phillip (#3 son that is at Fort Sam Houston for Medic training) is doing. Phillip cut her grass the last couple of summers...and she can't believe he's REALLY IN THE ARMY.
She's having a bad day. If y'all got a spare prayer in your pocket, please do me a favor and empty it out for her.
