Oh crud!
I'm pretty sure that my "office" comprutuh has crashed up/down big time. No biggie, right? Wrong!
Fortunately, I have a subscription to Carbonite, which has stored all of the 7 million pictures, documents, and other files and such offline. Whew! I mean, "with just a few clicks, all my files can be restored!"
So, I just go buy a new machine, install programs, and all is well in AndyLand! Wrong!
The problem is that all of my business web-page, and my Daddy's business web-page stuff that I maintain runs on Macromedia Dreamweaver. And I do not have the disk, nor can I find the license # to download it should I require a new machine.
Add to that the fact that my Customer Database (with approximately 4,200 entries), Billing, Shipping Label junk all works off of Microsoft Works 8. Now this should not be a big problem, but I know for a fact that MS Works 8 does not compute with Vista. When I bought my now dying computer, it came with XP...and the Vista Upgrade came a few weeks later in the mail. So, I installed the Vista Upgrade. Vista does not run MS Works 8, so I had to uninstall Vista.
I did everything possible, going through the "program compatibility" gyrations, calling Pakistan, and even threatening Bill Gates in person...but there was nothing they could do. So, in order to run my biness, I've got to have a machine that operates on XP. Crud...
Man...if the Lord don't intervene, I'm really messed over.
So, I'm asking all of y'all to pray at me...and my HP comprutuh that runs XP.
Okay...gonna go cut some grass to take my mind off my problems. Y'all do your part, and we might just get through this!!! Together...

Andy, I know for a fact that there is a plug-in that is backward compatible with Microsoft Office that can translate the Works files. Sweat that NOT.
ReplyDeleteSo, I think the root of your problem is that if you play the Windows Vista installer CD backwards, it emits satanic verses.
ReplyDeleteBut worse than that... if you run it FORWARD, it INSTALLS WINDOWS VISTA!!!
AAAAHHHHH!!!!!
HA Cosmic! Man, I am a huge XP fan. My spare machine runs Vista, and maybe I'm just old...
ReplyDeleteOld is good! NEW is BAD!
Paul, thanks for telling me that. I will not sweat it. Interestingly, I just turned the thing off last night, and it's working like a champ this morning.
Not to doubt the strength of y'all's prayers, nor the grace of God...but I'm shopping for a new one anyway. Justin Case!
Andy, what exactly does Hugh B. Cave have to do with this computer?
