I know how this works, but my ignorant self decided to challenge it two or 17 times. See, this just shows to go ya' that if you follow the rules, you'll always land on the same result.
But, I reckon a "Happy Face" ain't the worst place to end up...

The rules and the numbers he's calling out restrict your options so that he can always safely remove a tile, knowing that if you followed the rules you simply can't be on that tile by pure mathematics, and removing tiles simply restricts your options more. This is just an illusion of choice, every path you take forces you to end up on the happy face.
