Clear as mud!
Saturday's games served to further muddy up the College Football pond. Let me begin by saying, "I QUIT!" My picks are costing all my loyal reader too much money.
While I did nail OU's win over Kansas, my other "upset" picks fell as flat as a corncake. The Rubbers of USC were able to hold on against un-ranked Oregon State. It was a "tight one," as I had predicted, but in the end The Beavers just couldn't pull it off.
And man...did TCU, and Texas reinforce my stupidity, or what? I assumed that Mizzou, and BYU would at least find their respective buses, and get to the stadium. Crud...
The Crimson Tide has got me stumped. Florida has got me stumped. Even my beloved LSU Tigers have got me stumped.
It was a good night for a Tiger fan. But as always, we are left with that "why didn't we play like this against Florida?" question lingering in our minds. But hope springs eternal. After watching 'Bama's performance against the less than mighty Vols...well...we might just end up in Atlanta to face Timbow one more time. Who knows? I figure there will be one "one-loss" team in the National Championship game. And, if improvement continues...LSU might be that one.
Iowa continues to prove that "enough is enough," by beating Michigan State on the last play of the game. 'Nuf's 'nuf! The Hawkeyes, have won their last 4 games by a total of 17 (count 'em) points. In fact, in their 8 wins, the total is only a margin of 71. Just under 9 points avg. And, almost half of those 71 points came in week 2 with a 35-3 win over Iowa State. Regardless, it's a W...which really makes the picture muddy.
Boise State, TCU, and Cincinnati all remained unbeaten with impressive wins. Without the strength of schedule, there are gonna be some ticked off somebodys come BCS Bowl announcements. This is why we must have a playoff system. I don't believe for one moment that either of those three teams can compete week-in and week-out with Big-12, or SEC teams. And I'm quite sure that the computer won't either.
But they deserve a chance to prove me (and the system) wrong.
And, to wrap it up, the mighty Tribe of William & Mary did not disappoint the Homecoming crowd in Williamsburg...downing James Madison 24-3. (Make up your own Dolly Madison/Constitution joke...because I can't think of anything funny.)
And, "The Rock" of Slippery Rock U. was destroyed 44-7 by California. California? No, not THAT California...the Pennsylvania California. And yes, the town was named after the State...learned something this morning, didn't ya'?
