Aw heck...it's just 9:10 PM...

...hows about a little Joe Stampley & The Uniques?

For all y'all 60-somethings...and especially for y'all cats and kittens that once cruised The Bossier Strip...

  1. Well, I've been around the block a few times and I'm definitely in the named demographic, but Stampley is new to me. A regional talent?

The genre is oh-so-familiar, tho. Kinda sounds like the Flamingos, or any other of the numerous doo-wop groups in the late 50s ~ early 60s. I did a few turns around the HS gym to this music. (sigh)

  2. Yes Buck, regional talent...Shreveport/Bossier City boys mostly. That was their biggest hit. They mostly toured the South.

Joe Stampley went on to have some big-time hits in country music, and I think he was invited to join the Grand Ol' Opry. But, I always liked his pop stuff best.

  3. Stampley even recorded the song again, taking it to number one on the country charts.

He also had a series of hits with Moe Bandy (Moe and Joe).

Why I know this is not up for discussion.

  4. Yeah Basil, I knew Joe did it as a country song. But, I really liked it better in the original pop style.

And, I've got a pretty good idear how you know. Phenix City, and Bossier City vied for "which little town in the south is the most immoral" crown back in those days. I'll bet Joe & The Uniques worked those same clubs over there that they did over here.

    Could be wrong...

And, oh yeah! "Hey Joe, and Hey Moe" had some true good work together. I actually think Moe was a better solo performer. But it's a coin-toss.
