Super Bowl Sunday...

Bummer! Kinda puts a damper on the festivities when a massive rock falls through your ceiling and screws up your favorite recliner, huh? I told Bubba not to store that boulder in the bedroom upstairs! But did he listen to me? Noooooooooooo...

So, it's ALL on him!

Hey y'all! Hugs, kisses, yada yada yada...

It is time once again for our annual Black History Month Super Bowl jinx pick. I have checked the starting lineups for both the Colts, and the Saints. Good news! There are indeed some black guys playing today (and on both teams this year), so we may proceed.

This one is a toughie for me. As you all know, I am not really a fan of professional football. I am "rabid" about the collegiate version, but the pros...not so much. However, I am interested in this game, and plan to watch it because the Saints have a shot at what almost no one believed would ever happen. And, I'm proud for 'em.

I am not a Saints fan. I grew up idolizing Landry's 'boys. After the Cowboys started regularly leaving stink in the stadium, I lost interest in pro football, and have never really regained it. But, there is great anticipation, and jubilation here in The Bayou State over our Saints. I swear, in previously silver & blue NW Louisiana, all you see are black & gold Saints jerseys, caps, and other Saints paraphernalia (Heh! I spelled it right on the first try...no little red line, or nothing). Heck, even the checkers at The WalMart are wearing "Who Dat!" shirts instead of their regular uniforms.

So, with the fact made clear that I really know ZERO about how good either team is, I will make my humble expert jinx pick.

Colts - 35, Saints - 24.

Now, before you Saints fans go to throwing rotten tomatoes at your monitor...settle down and realize that I am WRONG about 90% of the time. And, you could bump that up over 95% when I'm making a wild guess.

Trust me. You'll thank me in the morning.

And hey y'all! While you're enjoying the festivities, and the junk food, and the ball game...let's don't forget to offer up a little prayer for these guys and gals.

Troops, I hope y'all have a blast today. I hope your team wins. But even if they don't, I hope y'all know that you're all Super in my book.

Y'all enjoy the game!

And, maybe call one of your black friends and wish them a happy Black History Month Super Bowl Sunday! I know I'm gonna...

  1. interesting--
    my pick was/is Colts 35 saints-21

this is Peyton country up here................the master of preparation and slow feet.................. the anti hip-hop quarterback from heaven............... with Mr. Clark as his right hand man........ a descendant from the Clark families of the 1700's. the ones with honor and humility and excellence........ but I ramble............ being from that line myself, but lesser feats accomplished than the said Mr. Clark....... Colts might look sluggish thru the 1st quarter, as the rush slowly dies in the eyes of the saints, once the rush of excitement and who knows what else, the master will carve them up like Christmas turkey...........

  3. Andy, I'm a very forgiving person. Hell, I forgave David Vitter his 'serious sin' as long as he promised to shut up about 'traditional family values'. I can forgive your not being a Saints fan - I'm only lukewarm on Pro Football myself. College ball is the game.
I'm fairly new to your blog so you must assure me that your passion is LSU football. If not, I don't know if I could bear it.

    P.S. Saints by 6

  4. Now this is what we need, some good trash-talking. fshafer bringing the paddle to the Saints.

Paul, bringing the paddle to the NFL!

And, yes Jim...once REAL football starts next fall, you will have a fellow Tiger fan to Amen! I am a fan-atic.

  5. Troops, I hope y'all have a blast today.

I asked SN1 if he was gonna watch it and he said "Hell No! I'm not getting up in the middle of the night for that..." The boy do have some sense.

  6. The Major obviously has more important things to do the next morning. As always...please give him our salute.

  7. We may have some serious disagreeing come fall, me being a former Razorback cheerleader and all! I tolerate -- and usually cheer for -- all the Tigers around here, except for Thanksgiving week. Thus, we shall see!

Our Saints are destined. I can just feel it. My tee shirt wardrobe is clean and lined up for a quick change to bring the appropriate amount of luck at the appropriate time. Snacks are being prepared. I'm even skipping the first of 2 Carnival parades this morning (moved up an hour to accommodate broadcasts!) so I can get the mojo working.

Our son is at drill this weekend, but they're cutting out a tiny bit early so they can get set for some serious Saints cheering. I wish our troops everywhere some peaceful moments to do as they please, whether it be catching some undisturbed ZZZs or cheering on their favorite teams.

Now, about that Black History thing -- New Orleans made some black history yesterday by electing the first white mayor in -- no I can't say it. No racist references to the chronology of a masked, ring-tailed critter shall pass through these fingers.

So, I'll leave it at WHO DAT!! Drew Dat!! Ain't no Colts gonna beat dem Saints!!

I'd feel more comfortable, however, if your jinx record were more along the lines of 99.9%!

  8. I was spending 13 months near Danang when Joe Namath won the superbowl in early '69. I don't remember any tv watching...now we did listen to Country Joe, and Zappa and even "fire" - who was that guy from England, that ignites his headpiece and sings 'fire' ?? maybe I listened to Buffalo Springfield a bit. "there's a man with a gun over there" oh yeah, there's a couple or three...... Arthur ???
getting closer...... rambling again, soon my mom will pull the plug on the computer........ I can hear her creeping around....... simmm.........

  11. thank god for small favors........

  12. fshafer, thank you for your service. I'm sure that's why Paul clarified his insult, and directed it toward a chicken like myself.

TD, I have not watched forty minutes of Super Bowl play in the last 10 years, total. But I have to watch this one...at least the first four minutes (I'm thinking of playing that aforementioned game).

Moogie, I expected to hear from you today. And, you will certainly be thrilled next fall when we have our Annual "We hate Arkansas Week" ahead of the Tigers-Hogs game.

  13. First super bowl I've ever been excited about.
Andy, you'd be better served to watch the last 4 minutes rather than the fist 4!

    ReplyDelete
  14. Ummm, that should have been "first 4", the fist thing was just Freudian.
And by the way, on the Google word verfication, I ain't no 'adsisse'.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Nyuk! "adsisse." Man, I get a charge out of those things sometimes...

And, if you had not mentioned it, I would not have noticed the Freudian slippage. I ain't sayin' I already started playing that game...but, well...

Have they mentioned Hurricane Katrina, or devastating floods on The Food Network yet?

Don't cuss nobody out, okay?
