A.W.O.L...painting sucks!!!

Hey y'all!  Hugs, kisses, yada yada yada...

I have not let but one or two of y'all know what's going on around Andy's Place.  It's a long story, but the short of it is that we are renovating our 1948 constructed garage apartment as a "guest house" for when y'all come down I-20 and need a place to stay (and because all our chirrens are living away, or likely to  move away, and might need a decent place to stay should they ever want to come back to visit).

I've had some good advice from my buddy, Paul Mitchell.  He is an Architect, Construction junk expert, plumber, AC Tech, electrical guy...and if he was here he would be busting my chops for slacking and cutting corners.

I've been taking pictures as we go along, and I'll give y'all the whole story once we get finished (or somewhat finished because this is gonna take FOREVER, as we were not selected for some reality TV show like Holmes on Homes, or that other one where the spikey-haired dude comes in and demolishes the whole place and builds a million dollar house in a hundred thousand dollar neighborhood...with big screen TV included in 72 hours).

It's all truly hilarious!!!  Really, it is.  The history of our garage apartment, and the effort we are putting in to fixing it up for y'all really is one for the ages.  Trust me, you're gonna love it...especially the part about how #3 son and I moved a 2 1/2 ton 1948 bathtub downstairs yesterday.  I'm laughing out loud just thinking about it!

Actually, I'm just kinda half-way chuckling, because I've been painting...and painting sucks!  I hope I don't offend any painters out there, but I understand why 99% of y'all are drunks!  I look like a spotted hound, and smell like its' backside.  So, I'm gonna wrap this up with an apology for being A.W.O.L., and go take an S.O.S. pad to my epidermis.

If I seem to be occupied with other things, it is because I am iz...

But, that doesn't mean I don't love y'all.  Trust me, it doesn't.

  1. Dude, if you think that you are bad at painting, you should see my work. It is certainly an art that you have to develop from loving it.

  2. Andy, rock on dude. And watch those paint fumes.

I'm glad you got that 5000 pound bathtub out of there. A washtub will be just fine for me when I stop by. I only use it on Saturdays anyhoo.

  3. I hope you're finished in about ten days or so, coz my travel plans have changed somewhat. I just might be in your neighborhood soon. But we haven't finalized things 'n' stuff, so don't take this as some sorta commitment. I say that to ALL the girls, btw.

  4. I hear ya. I despise painting. Mrs. BR and I are in disagreement about whether I should paint the house, or pay someone $2K to do it.

I'm all for doing my part to stimulate the economy.

  5. BR, 2k is a lot. I hate painting, and painting sucks...but I'll take the job!

Buck, come on down! We're way off from finished. The way we're tackling it, I'm thinking November.

Dan...the door is always open, but I bet you're not ready for a road trip any time soon.

Paul, I didn't say I was bad at painting...just that painting sucks. The Mrs. is the one that's good at it. I should really let her do all of it because she loves it so much.

  6. It must be a girl thing, because out of all things that can be done around the house, I really do like to paint. I even like the taping part, and the "cuttin' in", and all that. I know, weird.
