You know you're getting older...

...when you're watching a television program with The Mrs.

At the end of the program they begin to play a VERY familiar song from the 70's that you both remember ALL of the words to.

You don't want to be the first one to ask, so you wait for The Mrs. to ask.

The Mrs:  Okay, who is the guy singing that?

Me:  Ummmm....don't you know?

The Mrs:  No, but I should.  And, you should, too!

Me:  Ummmm....okay, I know I should.  I just can't come up with it off the top of my head.  I want to say it's Englebert Humperdink...but I know that's not right.

The Mrs:  Yeah, you're right.  It's not Englebert Humperdink, you retarded Monor!  (Not actually what she said, but that's kinda what I heard)

(As she walks to the computer to Gooble it, I'm racking my brain..."I KNOW WHO THIS IS!  WHY CAN I NOT PUT AN ARTIST'S NAME ON THIS SONG???"

Because, I'm getting older.  (And a retarded Monor)

20 seconds later...

The Mrs:  Gordon Lightfoot!

Me:  Yeah, Gordon Lightfoot.  Jeepers, I'm getting older.  I should have known that.  I suck...

  1. I actually could have gotten that, was listening to it on the You Tube the other day. Why don't you put something like THAT on your Mesa quizzes?

  2. Jim, this is spooky. Seriously. I got to thinking of doing a quiz with one of these compilation videos from the many artists can you name.

We cut the TV off, and have been watching them for over an hour now. It's amazing how many songs you know, but can't quite put a name on the guy/gal/group singing it...and it's amazing how many that you haven't thought of in years pops right into your head.

We're gonna' give that a tumble.

  3. By the way, I meant 'Mensa' not 'Mesa'. I guess if you can't spell it you ain't there yet, bwahahahaha!

  4. If you do a 70s music quiz I guarantee you I'll win. BTW, I'm still waiting for my million bucks...

  5. re: getting older. Not remembering minor hits is not a cause for worry. Standing in the kitchen and wondering why you came in there or what it was you came to get IS, especially if it happens two or three times a day. Don't ask me how I know.

  6. So, this guy's name is Edmond Fitzgerald, right? And he sang that song about that ill-fated ship called the Gordon Lightfoot. Yeah, I think that's it...

  7. Dadman, I have no doubt that you will rack up big points when this game commences. I just have to find the right compilation video. And yeah, Edmond was one heckuva Canadian!

Buck. It's already happened to me. Often. I'm headed downhill on roller skates, Pal. It is more evident every day.

  8. Ah, yes. That feeling you get having the knowledge and being able to spit it right out. I have had that feeling before. But, I've gotten older, too. Now, the feeling's gone and I just can't get it back...

  9. Basil: Good one! Nyuk...

You shall be a fine Governor of The Great State of Tennessee.

  10. I must say I've never been more impressed with a stump speech. Vote Basil 2010!

Don't cuss nobody out, okay?
