Nekkid!

Well, we finally got our first real nice cool snap.  We're about two or three weeks late on it this year it seems.

It has been very hot, and very dry.  But, Monday morning brought some 50's, and I think we only made about 78 yesterday.  I walked outside yesterday morning to feed Sadie, and had to turn around and put my old ratty robe on.  I look good in a robe.  Just sayin'...

Anyway, as y'all know I am a bit on the "thin" side, and when we get a cool-off, my hands tend to shrink up a bit.  So, I'm sitting here about 5:30 am this morning, in my robe, and lovely house moccasins, but feeling nekkid!  Something is just not right, and I know it.  I feel undressed.

So, I take stock of me, and see this:

This here is the left hand of a married man.  A nekkid left hand.  My wedding ring is gone.  I never take it off, but it has slipped off before when the weather turns cool.  I've looked under the bed, and on my route to Sadie's feed bowl.

Crud.  Maybe I lost it at work yesterday, but I think I'd have noticed before now.  I'll check and see if anybody found it.

Crud.  I hate to go out in public nekkid...

  1. Oops, been there, done that, Andy. About 8 months after we got married I took Mike (my 5 y.o.son who I had just adopted)up to the mountains in OR to play in the water. My NEW wedding ring fell off my hand after my hand shrunk in that really cold water. Of course the stream had a gravel bottom, and even though the water was clear......you get the picture. Crud pretty much covers it. I had just gotten used to wearing it! I did get a new one that was a couple of sizes smaller!

  4. Hate to even say it, but you might do well to follow Sadie around for a couple days, if you know what I mean.

And, no, I won't elaborate on how I'm so knowledgeable about this...

  5. Nekkid, indeed. I felt that way for a couple o' years after my divorce every danged time I looked at my left hand. Yeah, I'm weird, strange, and half-crazy. But it's true.

    Good luck on your search.

  6. Pepper went through a rock-climbing phase a number of years back and always took off his ring, thinking that potentially saving his finger was more advisable than announcing his marital status to the world. He usually put it in the same place in his car. One climbing trip, he managed to sprain his ring finger, causing it to swell and him not to wear his ring for quite awhile. When he was finally ready to put it back on, it was nowhere to be found. So, he went nekkid-fingered until our 25th anniversary 7 years ago when I surprised him with a new one. The still-super-sized knuckle helps the ring stay put.

Maybe Mrs. Andy should sprain your ring finger!

  7. Y'all are hilarious. Really. really...

Yeah, this is my second wedding ring I've lost. Back when Daddy had the appliance store and I worked there, I would take my first one off and put it in a desk drawer if I was gonna be working on a washing machine or something.

Kinda like Pepper not wanting to get a finger ripped off. That worked for years, but one time I went back to retrieve it, and it was GONE.

So I went for about 6 years without one, and about 12 years ago, The Mrs. bought me this one. As I said, it's fallen off a time or two, but I always cotched it, and have kept up real good with it.

Crud. I really liked this one. It was real pretty, and had really smooth edges and junk. I'm figuring it's around the house somewhere. I looked all over at work, and several folks helped me, so I'm pretty sure I didn't lose it there.

Crud...I really hate being nekkid. It's almost like that dream you have where you're on the school bus, or in a classroom, or on the playground and you realize you forgot to get dressed. You know what I'm sayin'...

  8. I know exactly how you feel. I lost mine in a pile of leaves one fall. I immediately rented a metal detector and luckily found it. It just doesn't feel right to go without it.

  9. I had a nekkid finger a few weeks ago and my wife commented on it so I told her I had no idea where it was since I normally only took it off when I had a date.
