Just think of all the calls Germany must have received from French collection agencies! I'll bet they took to leaving the phone off the hook.
They mailed the money to Paris. That would explain a lot. The canadian postal system is a joke. Everything I know about the US postal system I learned from that actor from "Cheers".

Took them 92 years, a world war, a country bombed flat and occupied, and 45 years of being divided before paying it back. Would have been a whole lot less fuss to just keep the money.
