Hey y'all! Hugs, kisses, yada yada yada...
I've been reading Roses' blog for what seems like forever. It's been decades at least a year or so, and I highly recommend it.
Roses is a girl, trying to raise two sons, and a husband in the frozen up tundra of the nation of Wisconsin. She really hits the perfect balance of funny, and seriously personal with those of us that stop by. I don't really remember exactly how I came across her corner of the blogosphere, but she was on somebody's blogroll, so I just clicked the link. The name of her blog intrigued me, so I went visiting.
It seems that she and her husband are radio folk...kinda' like Carnies for those of us that wish the Fair was always in town. Just joshin', Roses. Well, kinda...
I immediately added her section to my The Gooble Reader© , and have thoroughly enjoyed riding along with her. It's usually funny, but sometimes quite transparent, and reflective...especially as she has shared with us the loss of her beloved Mother recently, and her sister's current battle with cancer. There have been some really moving pieces. In other words, it's real life stuff. Really good real life stuff.
Anyway, let me get to the point. Among her many talents, Roses uses needles and hooks in a masterful way. Yep, she is a crochet artist. And, she's been telling us about these "Chicken Hats" that she just threw together, and how lots of folks at the office, and other folks wanted one.
I had been telling The Mrs. about this famous "Chicken Hat" deal for a while. We were wondering just what in the heck a chicken hat would look like. Over the weekend, Roses finally put up a picture of 'em. And, I'll tell y'all, they are clever, IMHO. I commented that she ought to try to market them, and another commenter said he thought Chick-Fil-A would be a good target customer.
Well, today while we were working, I told The Mrs., "Hey! Roses finally put up a picture of those chicken hats." So, I showed The Mrs., and she was impressed. Now, The Mrs. has many talents, but crochet stuff is not one of them. She got a big ol' grin on her face and said, "Man, she needs to do something with that! Andy, do you remember that one time I tried to crochet? You remember that little brown thing I made that looked like a shriveled up piece of bacon? I could probably crochet something like a dreadlocks wig-hat, or something that looks like a long dog turd, but nothing anybody would recognize."
I got so tickled...a dog turd cap...nyuk! We started giggling, and couldn't quit. It was one of those "you had to be there" deals, I guess.
Anyway, I want one of them Chicken Hats. Winter is coming on, and y'all all know how much I despise cold weather, and how I suffer when it drops below 50. And now that I do not have to worry about "cap-head," seeing as I have gone slickish on top, (btw, I have gone with a #1 every couple of weeks since then, and am thinking about just going slick completely), I'm thinking of commissioning one in Purple & Gold. Seems like we're kinda chickens**t this season anyhow...might fit right in.
Anyway, y'all go over there and take a gander at Roses' work. Maybe if this world famous blog drives enough traffic, she'll give me a discount. I ain't asking mind you, I'm just typin' out loud...
You know, I spent a couple of years in Wisconsin. I can say that the hats are very autumn appropriate.
ReplyDeleteI will add I enjoyed the time I was there, very friendly people.
Purple and Gold? I didn't know you were a Washington Huskies fan.
ReplyDeleteGo Dawgs!
Not that I'm committing to anything, but were you thinking a purple hat with a gold comb, or a gold hat with a purple comb?
ReplyDeleteJim, I'm quite sure they are.
ReplyDeleteBR: Dawgs? I didn't know you were a Mississippi State fan.
Roses, I'm thinking gold hat with purple comb...and I'll gladly pay you for it. Full price, plus shipping. I like it.
I'll have to go check that out! My grandma crotcheted and this sounds like something she would have done!
ReplyDeleteUgh... okay, so I'm not sure how to spell crochet and this box is in front of your post. I didn't mean to spell it with crotch. Oy.
ReplyDeleteHeh! Funny, CB. It's good to see you around. I hadn't seen any posts from you in a long time in my feed reader, and thought you'd dropped out of the sphere.
ReplyDeleteBut, I see you're posting at the righteousbuzz. I shall certainly be interested to read...the first one I see already has my interest up.
Priceless! We have an annual event that revolves around Royal Roosters and Loyal Hens -- these would be perfect!
ReplyDeleteBTW -- Notice how I let the chickens**t observation slide? Heh.
