Good! As bad as I hate the idea of his Democrat opponent occupying one of the sacred 100 seats in the US Senate, this is a political lesson for all of us. When folks of either party continue to send money-grubbing, money-grabbing, career politicians to Washington (or to the State House), they will eventually be found out...and everybody will have egg on their face.
Stevens needed to go a long, long time ago (just like the other Ted I have in mind). He has been one of the least statesman-like Senators in my lifetime. The Republican Party in Alaska should have gently shown him the door before he could compromise not only the make-up of the Senate...but the integrity of the AK Republican Party (I think Sarah has made it obvious that there wasn't much integrity there to start with by having to fight them tooth and nail).
Besides that...he's 84 dangit! What is in someone that will insist on staying "on top" until they croak? A wiser, better man would have groomed a younger person, supported them, and retired to the newly remodeled cabin in the woods.
"The month long trial revealed that employees for VECO Corp., an oil services company, transformed Stevens' modest mountain cabin into a modern, two-story home with wraparound porches, a sauna and a wine cellar.
The Senate's longest-serving Republican, Stevens said he had no idea he was getting freebies. He said he paid $160,000 for the project and believed that covered everything."
Okay, one Ted down...now if the other one will quit, The US Senate will be twice enriched!
