This article, World asked to help craft online charter for religious harmony, has all the details.
Basically, what these people want to do is achieve world peace by bringing all religions together in "perfect harmony." (Wasn't that a commercial for Coca-Cola way back?)
This is funny:
Armstrong's wish is to combine universal principles of respect and compassion into a charter based on a "golden rule" she believes is at the core of every major religion.
The Golden Rule essentially calls on people to do unto others as they would have done unto them.
"The chief task of our time is to build a global society where people of all persuasions can live together in peace and harmony," Armstrong said.
"If we do not achieve this, it seems unlikely that we will have a viable world to hand on to the next generation."
Don't get me wrong, I'm all for whirled peas. The problem is that this chick is starting with the stupid notion that all religions believe in the golden rule.I can just see some of the submissions they get to their stupid web-site. "Hello, my name is Abdullah, and I sent my 14 year-old son onto a bus with a bomb to kill Israeli mothers and babies. I wish that you would do the same unto me! Please strap Jewish children with bombs and send them into the West Bank to kill my wife and children...trust me, there will be virgins awaiting them."
The notion that the internet can bring about harmony is just really ridiculous, and a waste of time. If the high tech Google crowd wants to bring about harmony, how about starting with the vicious, hate-filled, left-wing here in the US that wished for the murder of Bush, applauded when Falwell died, laughed when Republicans got caught up in sex scandals, etc. I'm sure that they will be the first to sign up...yea, they really believe in treating others as they'd like to be treated!
This Anderson gal doesn't understand that very, very few humans really believe in the Golden Rule. She is starting her cut with a crooked blade. The Golden Rule is not at the core of every major religion. Even if it was, human nature almost always wins out. It is the nature of us 7 billion humans to do what is in our own interest. The whole thing is ignorant!
I'm glad I sold my Google stock...
