Mensa Teaser...Oh crud! I forgot it is Thursday...

What is the total of New Cuyama?

Sorry, Corch Mayor!  I'm letting you down...

No Mensa Teaser today.  I've got a headache from the sweltering heat, and my brain just can't come up with anything...and my vision is blurry, so I can't read these that are already written down.

You're gonna have to help me, Team.  If you've got a really hard question, or riddle, or mind puzzle, post it on your blog, and I'll post a link to it.  Or, if you don't have a blog, drop one in the comments, or g-mail it to me at justandysplace@gmail.com.

I apologize, y'all!  I know y'all have been looking forward to this all week.

I suck.

Mensa Teaser...this is more harder than I figured it would be.

Once again, we give many thanks to our Okie buddy, Staci for this week's opening Mensa Teaser picture!  (Where does she find this stuff???)

I'm going with answer #2 on this one, and turning immediately to page #54.

Just sayin'...

Last Thursday, y'all did just fabrulous!  Really, you did!  Really, one of you did.  And, another one of you may have, but Steamboat's answer was so convoluted that I actually had to go out and buy two hourglass timers from a Pawn Shop to test it out (thanks for the tip, Innominatus).  And, Steamboat's rather convoluted route to the correct answer seems to be correct.  I think.  I'm not sure, because I got lost in the instructions about 12 times in a row, and it takes too long for all that sand to run back down to try it out again, so I just finally smashed them with my embroidered slipper and called Steamboat correct.

Good on ya' Steamboat!  Like my beloved Granddaddy always said, "Sell by mass confusion."  He was a good salesman.

Nancy was our other big winner.  She correctly answered both questions according to the answer key.  Nancy is racking up big time points here, and will likely be our starting wide receiver when the real season opens up in September when The Mayor takes this job back over.

Please!

So, let's be about this week's Mensa Teaser questions.

1) Supply the missing number.

1   4   10   —>   117
5   5   5    —>    75
1   1   1    —>    3
1   3   1   —>    11
1   2   3   —>    ?

(That little question mark deal denotes the missing number, just in case you didn't know).

2)  It is College Football season (finally).  USC, and Notre Dame are playing the annual Snooze Bowl.  After four regulation quarters, the score is tied 2 - 2.  Neither team has gained a first down, or completed a pass.  In the second overtime period, the score is still 2 - 2.

On 4th and 43, the Notre Dame quarterback decides on a Hail Mary.  He fades back and is not sacked for the first time in three weeks, and tosses that punkin' with all his might.  Notre Dame's star wide receiver eludes USC's star cornerback when Jamaal pulls up lame due to being a wuss.  He runs at break leg speed toward the end zone.  Really, he breaks a leg from actually running, and falls headlong into the end zone.

As he winces in pain, he grabs his leg, and flips over on his back awaiting medical attention.  The previously flung pigskin lands point-first right on him, and lodges in his face guard.

What is the final score?

Go at it, team!

Oh yeah!

Bonus question:  When is September gonna be?

Mensa Teaser...Thursday #4...

Our good Okie buddy, Staci sent this to me as her response to Mensa Teaser.  Obviously, she does not intend to participate.  But, I'm giving a big old back slap to all of y'all that suited up last week, and took on those two almost impossibly amazingly hard as nails questions.  (Yeah)

Unfortunately, only Mitch (no really) was the only player to answer both questions correctly.  Good on ya' Mitch (no really)!  I'm iz proud!  And, you should be, too.  Puff that chest out, and crow your loudest Mitch (no really)!

However, several of you receive partial credit for answering at least one correctly. And, even though a few of you like Paul the Fireguy, Nancy, Moogie, and Innominatus (not his real name) did technically post answers that might somehow be considered correct, I can't give you full credit.  I can not, because what you wrote is not in the answer key, and Corch Mayor has not given me authority to make special dispensations, or judgments on my own.

Sorry.  Take it up with him.

So, let's be about it...

1)  If a carriage doth travel Eastwards from London...  Nyuk, just joshin'!

Down!  Set!  Hutt!  Hutt, Hutt, Hutt!!!

1) You have two hourglass sand timers.  One runs for three minutes and another runs for 5 minutes. How do you time 7 minutes using these two sand timers?

2)  The Hebert family (pronounced "A-Bear Fomli" for y'all that don't speak Coonass) is kinda odd.  They like numbers, but only certain numbers.  See, I told y'all they are kinda odd.

The Papa, Elmer likes 225, but not 224.  Mama, Pixie likes 900, but not 800.  Their little girl, Elxie likes 144, but not 145.  Their little boy, Pixler likes 196, but not 296.

So, which of these numbers does the extremely odd Hebert family like?

a)  1600

b)  1700

Have at it, y'all. Let's make Corch Mayor proud, okay? And, have a smash-up, bang-up, heckuva what's left of Mensa Teaser Thursday!

Mensa Teaser...Thursday #3...

Well team, we did pretty dang good last Thursday with our Mensa questions.  Really, we did!  The photo above has absolutely nothing to do with Mensa questions, other than I'm pretty sure this fellow probably could have done just about as well with last weeks questions as most of you did.

However, week #2 was so way much better than week #1 that I almost turned loose water with excitement!  Really, I did!  Mitch (not his real name, obviously some plant from The Mayor's staff), Bunk Strutts (not his real name, obviously), and Mr Fnortner (not his real name, obviously...but maybe it is.  I'm not sure.) all answered the two amazingly impossible MENSA questions correctly.  That's pretty danged good in my book!  I'm is proud!

Inno, Steamboat McGoo, and Mahmoud (not their real names) all got one question correct!  Fabulous!  Pat yourselves on the back, or anywhere it feels good!

Nancy thought we were still trying to figure out what kind of tree grows in Kentucky, and has green balls.  She answered "Black Walnut."  Nyuk...

I like Nancy a lot.  I really do.

Really, I do.  Really.  But, unfortunately, you were wrong, Nancy.  (Not about the variety of tree...just EVERYTHING ELSE)  Sorry Nancy...don't pat any green balls.  Period.  C'mon...Ah loves ya', and you know I do...

So, lets us get on down to the brass tacks of Mensa Teaser questions for Week #3.

I can only give you one clue.  Do not wear a black T-shirt on a 100+ degree (F) day in Louisiana, and do not attempt to change out electric outlets in an old garage apartment that you are renovating without shutting off ALL THE POWER before you do it, especially if you are dripping sweat like a cotton-pickin' slave at Tara.  (I know, that is two clues...so consider yourself fortunate).

So, let's be about it...

1) Fill in the blanks to make common English words. The letters you put in the blanks, when read left to right, will spell out shorter words that all have something in common.  Please explain what those shorter words have in common.

T E _ P _ R_ _ U R E

_ U _ F L _ _ E R

A _ R _ _ I V _

H O _ E _ P A _ _ I C

_ _ L I G _ _ E

2) (Now here's y'all an even easier one)  Which number comes next in this series of numbers?

2...3...5...7...11...13...

Okay, these are easy passes on a short drop. If y'all can't catch these, well...heck, I even answered these without looking at the answer key.

And, my blog is written by a chick...who writes like Stephen King...and posts "pie recipes."

Good luck, y'all!  And as always, thank y'all for your support in making Andy's Place the go-to place on the worldwide computer for boring content, and lame quizzes!

Mensa Teaser...a sideline visit with the team...

Okay, guys/gals, maybe I didn't 'splain the Mensa Teaser deal too good last Thursday when we took our opening kickoff.  So, maybe I need to 'splain this thing a little bit better to y'all.  I'm taking the heat on myself for our lackluster performance last week.  I was assuming things that I should not have, so it's ALL ON ME!

Corch Mayor left me and y'all in charge of  Mensa Teaser for the Summer (or until the first College Football game of the season, or until he makes me quit because I suck at this).  So, it is incumbent upon y'all to help me keep my job here.

The purpose of Mensa Teaser is for me to throw y'all two questions that may (or may not) be asked to somebody if they take the MENSA test.  Y'all are definitely supposed to answer the questions in the comments.  It does not matter if somebody else has already answered them correctly ahead of you.  Go ahead on and figure out the answers before clicking on the little "comment" deal, then enter your answers.

If by chance you can not figure out the answer to the questions, then any amusing thought that crosses your mind is invited as a comment.  You can go ahead on and enter ANY THOUGHT PERIOD, whether it is amusing or not (which is what I usually do when Corch Mayor runs MENSA Teaser, due to the fact that I can not usually figure out the answers, and lack good humor skills).

We didn't do too good on our opening drive, team.  I'm sad to say that ONLY Andy (not me...the other Andy) actually answered both of the questions correctly last week.  And, it took me about four exchanges with him, and offering him some non-existent prize of a bottle of Scotch to make him finally write down the answers in a comment.

It seems that the rest of y'all were consumed with your own silly little problems like $14,000 water bills, and headaches from trying to do math, and other junk that just won't cut it as excuses!  Dangit!  Actually, it all was pretty dang funny, and I enjoyed the heck out of the comments, but The Mayor is counting on us here.

So, let's give her another rip, whatayasay?  You might want to do some stretching exercises first, because these are gonna be a little tougher.  Here are your Mensa Teaser questions for the week.

1) Which of the scrambled words below is least like the others? The difference has nothing to do with vowels, consonants, or syllables.  (In other words, you're gonna have to unscramble the words first, and then say why one is least like the others).

AAALTTN

CEILNDA

OOSTBN

WRAENK

2)  Only one other word can be made from ALL the letters of "INSATIABLE."  What is that word?  (Note the ALL.  I mean, words such as "IT," or "ABLE," or "SITIN'" are not acceptable.  You gotta use ALL the letters)

Well, good luck y'all! Enjoy the task ahead. I'm sure y'all will not let me down.

Mensa Teaser! The opening drive...

Okay, so I'm REAL nervous after Corch Mayor put me in to handle this for the Summer.  I don't mind telling y'all that I am.  I mean, my hands are shaking, and I feel kinda queazy down there where fellows feel queazy when they get their BIG CHANCE at something.

So, let's huddle up.

I had asked Corch Mayor for some good advice before taking my first snap at this.  Basically what he told me was two things.

a)  "You're on your own, kid!  I'm hittin' the bricks, and you are in charge."

2)  "Thursday is 'Canada Day,' so be sure and say something nice about Canada."

Well, I can tell y'all for sure that I do love Canada, and the Canadians that the worldwide computer has introduced me to.  And, I AIN'T JUST SAYIN' THAT!  I mean it.

There's a whole lot of things that I truly appreciate about Canada.  But, I think one of the best things I like about Canadians is that they suck at soccer even more than we do down here in the US.  Seriously, they REALLY suck at it.  That means that they have a MUCH lower percentage of pansies up there than we do down here.

I mean, I think Reagan was President the last time Canada fielded a team of grass fairies that were gay enough to make it to the big World Cup deal.

Good on y'all!

I love y'all!  Would y'all adopt me?  Please?  I'm just kidding.  I mean I love y'all and all, but it's real cold up there, and I don't do "cold" very well.

The Mayor did leave me this .gif file in the playbook, though.  This is why Canadians despise the Vuvuzela plastic horn deal, and soccer in general...

In fact, this is how Canadians have learned a good use for that Vuvuzela plastic horn deal.

I know that this is probably not really Canadians, but I had this picture and figured I'd never get another chance to use it.

Okay, so since I'm nervous, I'm gonna throw y'all some short passes until we get our timing down real good.  I am going to pose y'all two REALLY easy Mensa test questions just for warm-ups this week.

And, maybe I'll throw in a more difficult deep across the middle one at the end.  Probably not, but I'm not sure.  But we'll see.  This is fun!  Heck, Corch Mayor is in an undisclosed location doing undisclosed things with some of y'all know who...I can do dang near anything I want to.  Nyuk!!!

Okay, these are y'alls two REALLY EASY Mensa Teaser questions...

1)  Cletus is half his Daddy Clovis' age. In 10 years, Cletus will be three-fifths Clovis' age. Ten years ago, Cletus was one-third Clovis' age. How old are Cletus and Clovis now?

(Editorial note:  I mean, how old is each individual...not how old the Daddy and boy are total...and this one is so easy, I did it in my head without thinking hard at all)

2)  If 6 Reeses Peanut Butter Cups and 5 Milk Duds cost 85 cents total, but 6 Milk Duds and 5 Reeses' Peanut Butter Cups cost 80 cents total, then how much is one Reeses Peanut Butter Cup and how much is one Milk Dud?

Good luck, y'all! Thanks for being on the new (temporary...just for the Summer) Mensa team!

This is gonna be as easy as it gets. I have got a whole bunch of these Mensa questions that involve filling in the blanks on words, and trying to figure out some two unknown words that can go at the back and front of other words to make sense, and some pictures that fit, or don't fit, etc.  But, I decided to start y'all off with elementary school level ciphering.

If y'all can't get these, y'all need to go invest your valuable time watching soccer or something.

BREAK!

Put me in, Corch!!! The BIG Announcement...

Hey y'all! Hugs, kisses, yada yada yada...

I had told y'all a few days ago that a great, and quite humbling honor has been conferred upon Andy's Place.  Well, the truth is that it is an honor that is shared amongst all y'all visitors, too!  Pat y'allselves on the back!

One of the most popular features on the entire worldwide computer is The Mayor's Mensa Teaser feature, which runs every Thursday at Mitchieville.  Well, each year The Mayor takes the Summer off from posting Mensa Teasers.  Ya' know...to kinda refresh, recharge, drink a little heavier, etc.

So, The Mayor looked across the entirety of the blog world.  He searched high and low.  He overturned every rock, and nooked through every cranny looking for the most astute group of blog visitors on the planet to which he might entrust the solemn responsibility of filling in (just for the Summer, mind you).

And, you guessed it!  He picked me to sling the pigskin, and y'all to catch the passes!

Actually, I begged him to let me give it a try...and offered him inducements.  But, that is beside the point.  The point is that we got the gig, and that's all that matters!  If you do not know what "Mensa Teaser" is, it is where The Mayor makes some really funny observation, or tells some funny story or something, then he poses TWO questions that folks are asked in Mensa examinations.  It then becomes the job of the visitors to answer the questions.  And I'll tell y'all, some of those questions are HARD.

Now, I have promised The Mayor that I will faithfully post Mensa Teaser every Thursday until college football season starts, or until he tells me that I really suck at it, and to go back and sit on the bench.  I have also promised him that I will not do such a stellar job of it that there rises a great clamor for me to replace him permanently.  So, expect the level of mediocrity in this feature that you have come to expect around here daily.  Okay?  Okay!

Ooooooohhhhhhh, I'm excited!!!  I was thinking we might give Mensa Teaser a "Louisiana Flavor."  No, we will not ask questions like, "What is two plus two?"  Or "Boudreaux caught 12 catfish, and Thibodeaux caught 9.  How much longer will it take Boudreaux to clean his fish than Thibodeaux?"  Nope, it will not be anything quite that simple.

So, y'all get all y'all's thinking caps on, and pencils and tablets ready for tomorrow.

I'll tell y'all, I'm so excited I might just turn loose water...

Thanks, Corch Mayor!  I will NOT let you down!
