THE GROCERY BILL...

Now this is interesting to me. This Tarheel buddy of mine mailed me a computer letter with information about how much money folks spend to eat in different parts of the world.

It really did (let me get my word book...) astound me at the differences, and the similarities (looked it up). I really am puzzled, because there are Mexico people paying as much as the Mrs. and me do for food every week. Then, there are Italy people spending more than our family does, here in the US of A.

We set down and figured it up. With the weekly trip to Wal-Mart for big grocery shopping, and the occasional run up to Leroy's Quick Stop for bread and milk, and school lunch for the boys, and the seeds for the garden, and the bullets for the rifle, and the restaurant trips two or three times a year, and what I put out for corn likker to my buddy Clete all added up, and divided by 52 weeks in a year...

We spend about $200 a week for everything. That's for me, the Mrs., and 3 boys still living here (two of them 18 years old...not twins, we got an extra living here for awhile...and one 11 year-old). I think we get out pretty cheap after looking at this Time Magazine article...

The folks in Africa in this article don't pay too much for food. I guess there ain't a whole lot to buy over there. This is good food for thought.

You can look at the pictures right here...real interesting. Hint for the ignorant: You gotta click on the little "next" block to see another picture after you finish lookin at the picture you're lookin at...it'll bring several more up.
