Webster Parish deputies and State Livestock Brand Inspectors are trying to identify ownership of a stray cow found off Hwy 159 near Shongaloo in north Webster Parish. The cow will be held 10 days. If no owner comes forward during that time, the cow will be sold at the Red River Livestock Sale Barn on Hwy. 1 in Armistead. Webster Parish Sheriff Gary Sexton reminds citizens that state law requires that anyone who pens loose livestock must notify the parish sheriff’s office of jurisdiction in a timely manner and then contact the Livestock Brand Commission, locally at Haughton or by calling Baton Rouge Headquarters at 1-800-558-9741. The Brand Inspector then inspects the animal to try to identify ownership (as required under L.R.S. 3:734 the State Brand Law). “A good brand is your cow’s return address,” said Sexton. |
