EGG BOWLING?

I have told y'all before that Paula Deen really gets on my nerves! I'm sure she's a nice lady, but I think she puts on her southern accent.

I have listened to southern ladies my whole life, but there's just something about hers that "grates" on me.

Well, I was walking through the bedroom yesterday and the Mrs. was looking at Paula Deen and her cooking show. Paula said, "Now, while I'm 'bowling' my eggs, I'm gonna work on the relish..." I just had to stop and laugh. I told the Mrs., "don't you know that makes a big old mess on the hardwood when Paula starts 'bowling her eggs'?" The Mrs. did laugh, so my goal for the day was accomplished.

But I got to thinking about it and realized that Paula ain't the only person that can't pronunciate words correct!

I've got some black friends that will tell you that they are "burlin eggs." My Granddaddy that grew up in North Carolina would say that he was "boilin aaaags." My friends from the Midwest would say that they are "boilink eggz."

And my coonass friends would tell you that they are "ballin' iggs."

You know, Coonasses are famous for their cooking. In fact, we were down in New Orleans once at the Audubon Zoo. It is a real pretty zoo. It is real unique among zoos, though. When you come to a cage, or an area where a particular animal is kept they have real nice plaques that give the "common name" of the animal. Then underneath that they list the "scientific name" of the animal...you know, genus and species, and order and all.

What makes the Audubon Zoo unique is that underneath all that they have recipes for cooking it!

So I'm rethinking my opinion of Paula Deen. She might not be "putting on" her accent. She just might have got a double dose of Southern. I'll keep y'all updated on it.

By the way, my PETA friends would say, "Boiling eggs? Gross me out! Why would you boil a little chicken? I mean, it's one thing to have an abortion...but boil a little chicken...gross me out!"
