ROCKY FOUND...DEAD

Hey y'all, I don't really want to make light of this. "Rocky," one of the few "bomb-sniffing" dogs in Louisiana was found dead along the road in St. Francisville, LA.

If you have never been to St. Francisville, Louisiana, you have missed a real step back into history. The Mrs. and I decided on our 25th anniversary to just "roam around" Louisiana to celebrate...nothing fancy...just roaming from place to place. We had a wonderful time in Lafayette, Opelousas, and Baton Rouge. But I think the highlight of the whole week was St. Francisville.

I'm not a Roman Catholic, but I think they named the town after St. Francis.

This article from the Baton Rouge Advocate:

Baker's bomb-sniffing dog killed in traffic

March 11, 2008

The Associated Press ST. FRANCISVILLE -- The Baker Police Department's bomb-sniffing dog, which had escaped from its kennel last week, was found dead along a West Feliciana Parish road. The Belgian Malinois, named Rocky, had escaped from his kennel in the Wakefield area of West Feliciana Parish. Police believe he was struck by a vehicle and killed some time over the weekend. Rocky, who cost about $12,500 and was obtained with a federal Department of Homeland Security grant, was one of the few dogs in the state trained to find explosives, Police Chief Mike Knaps said Monday.

I know that this might seem like a stupid thing to pass along...but I love dogs. They are smarter than people in alot of ways. They can do things, smell things, and figure out things that a human never could. It hurts my feelings when one of them (especially a dog that helps make us all safe, like Rocky) passes on. REST IN PEACE, ROCKY!

This post isn't funny at all, and it's not supposed to be. I just love dogs...except for PitBulls.
