SAD STORY...

When stuff like this happens it just really makes me shake my head...

Down south of Shreveport, LA is the town of Mansfield, LA. It is bigger than a Town, but not as big as a City. Just south of that is an incorporated Village known as "South Mansfield." Louisiana is famous for stuff like that. Heck, we've got a town called "Hodge" with about a thousand people or so, and right north of it a town called "North Hodge" with about half that...I think it is a (let me get my word book...) territorial thing.

Anyway, the elderly Mayor of the Village of South Mansfield, Louisiana (it's just a wide spot in the road, but a home to some good folks), Mrs. Dessie Lee Patterson was killed by some 25-year-old waste of oxygen named Bobby G. Harris during an apparent robbery.
Other reports say that she never had more than $200 in her possession.

I never had the privilege of meeting Mrs. Patterson. I'm sure I would have liked her. I've never met Bobby G. Harris either...and I hope he lives a long, uncomfortable life with his future boyfriends at Angola for what he did to this lady.

This from the local CBS affiliate in Shreveport:

Suspect Arrested in South Mansfield Mayor's Homicide

Desoto Parish sheriff's officials say they have arrested 25 year old Bobby G. Harris who they say is responsible for the killing of 90-year-old Village of South Mansfield Mayor Dessie Lee Patterson Tuesday afternoon.

Patterson was found dead at her home Tuesday afternoon. Police say she was also the candy lady and sold things like chips, cokes and candy out of her kitchen. They say it appeared money was missing along with a small wallet where she kept spare change.

Investigators say it was children who were coming to get candy who saw that her door was opened and they ran and told their parents who called police and relatives.

Patterson was the first black female mayor in the state of Louisiana. Sadly, her husband, Pat Patterson, was killed outside of their home back in the early 1960's. Patterson's grandson Kerwan Reed described her as a pioneer and an icon for civil rights.

Police say Harris has a long criminal history and was on parole.

Sad, sad, sad, sad. Rest In Peace Mrs. Dessie Lee.
