Pelosi: President Should Consider Boycotting Olympics' Opening

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is calling for "W" to join Germany in a boycott of the opening ceremony of the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China. Even somebody as ignorant as I am knows that this kind of stuff is all "symbolic."

But...this might just be a symbolic act that actually opens the eyes of the world to the larger issue of human rights in repressive nations.

A couple of quotes:

In a recent trip to Dharmasala, India, home of the Dalai Lama's displaced Tibetan government, Pelosi said, "If freedom-loving people don't speak out against China's oppression of people in Tibet, we have lost all moral authority to speak out against any oppressed people."

And: "I don't think China should have gotten the Olympic Games to begin with," Pelosi told GMA.

Heck, I'd go further. I would like to see all free nations just boycott the whole danged thing. Let all the commies, fascists, and tin-horns have a big " gold medal orgy." Who cares?

I just hate it when I have to agree with Nan.

I don't look for it to happen. "W" and his Daddy have deep connections with the Chinese. I know, I know, I know...the US economy depends alot on China...they've got sway over North Korea...they've got nukes...I KNOW, I KNOW, I KNOW!!!

I'm just about worn-out with every decision we make as a nation being weighed by economic, political, and fretful nail-biting factors.

As bad as I hate to admit it, I think Jimmy Carter made the right decision to boycott the Moscow Olympics over Afghanistan...and I think Nancy Pelosi is right on this one (that's a first).
