...Like a good Lawrence Welk video.
I have posted before about how my Great Grandmother, Mammie loved Lawrence Welk. It was as much a Saturday Night ritual, as Sunday morning church. And, I mentioned how much my boys loved to watch his program in reruns on PBS when they were little.
When I came across this video of a Brewer & Shipley song, I just had to laugh. I can not imagine that Mr. Welk had any idea what was happening here. And I would bet that no one in the audience, or watching on TV did either. Aaaahhhhhh...it was a simpler time.
That girl's from Durant (we say it Doo-Rant), down in SE Oklahoma. I know durn well she knew what "toke" meant!
ReplyDeleteYeah Staci...The Mrs. and I watched this early this morning. We discussed the premise that the younger folks in the cast knew EXACTLY what was happening, and pulled it off with a straight face.
ReplyDeleteEspecially the gal from Doo-Rant (nyuk). We know a bit about SE Oklahoma ourselves...
I can just imagine my Great Grandmother sitting in her front room in front of the old B & W Console TV...toes tapping to this snappy "newer song," WITHOUT A CLUE!
The bad thing about running across this video is that we have both been singing the song ALL THE DOO-DAH-DAY. She finally quit, but I have not been able to. She has much more self control than I do.
