Sunday Morning Quarterback...

Weekend 1 is in the books for the NCAA Football Season...almost...but all the games I cared about are finished.

My LSU Tigers beat Washington, in a less than stellar team performance. But it's a W, and we will take it. We've got a ways to go yet. But I think we'll do better than last season. I was impressed with Washington's offense. They've got a good QB, and a wicked breakaway tailback. I look for them to have a good season...within the Pac-10. They probably won't beat anybody outside of the Pac-10, but they will play respectable ball.

Ohio State is weak. I talked to my son who lives in Columbus, and is a huge Buckeye fan, after the game. He was into the "head-shaking, OH WOE IS US!" USC will likely ruin their season next week.

Speaking of "ruining a season"... Well, we all saw it. BYU pulled off what has to be the upset of the day, and one of their biggest wins in many years by beating Oklahoma. But it may not have really been an upset. Any ranked team is to be taken seriously. The Mountain West is tougher all the time, and the level of competition they play has ratcheted up.

Would it have been different with Bradford in the game? I don't know. The Cougars were clamping down him pretty stout.

My buddy Dadman (who sometimes comments) is a huge BYU fan. I e-mailed him a couple of days ago that I thought it would be close at halftime, but OU would probably win eventually with a score in the low-40's, to BYU's "high teens." I figured that the Sooners would eventually wear down the Cougar defense, maybe get some long special team scores, etc. But that's why they play the game. Congratulations to 'em.

Florida proved that they can punch the hell out of a punching bag. Charleston Southern? 'Nuf said.

My LA Tech Bulldogs lost to Auburn (the fake Tigers). I don't think we brought our A game. Sigh.

And Hofstra beat Stony Brook. I didn't get the Slippery Rock/Millersville score, so if somebody knows, please pass it along.

In the comments yesterday, Walt wrote:

OK,

Oklahoma may be out of the running... overrated early. BYU always seems to show good, but can never pull it off in the stretch.

Texas is in deep doo doo. If they let Monroe score 20, I hate to see what will happen against a good team.

LSU... overrated! They are always hyped, rarely that good. True again this year.

Ohio State better pick it up!

I want to agree with Walt. LSU is overrated. Even as a fan, I don't get the high early season rating. And I think BYU proved that they are underrated...or were. I'll be interested to see the shake-ups in the polls.

  2. Hey Walt, THANKS! I just knew that The Rock would crush those worthless Marauders (nyuk...they suck) from Millersville!

Now I can stop biting my fingernails. You da man!
