Obama Misses Berlin Wall Fall 20th anniversary...

With all due respect to my right-wing friends, I'm a little uncomfortable with the criticism being thrown at Obama over his decision to stay home.

Here is why. Suppose Obama did accept Germany's invitation. Many who are criticizing him for being absent would be just as shrill in their criticisms.

I can hear it. "There goes Obama...trying to horn in on Reagan's place in history. There goes Obama...jetting off to Europe again...costing the taxpayer millions of dollars while we're in the throes of a recession, and massive deficits. There goes Obama...taking every opportunity to make himself the center of the world's attention. There goes Obama...running off while there's 10.2% unemployment, and real work to be done. There's Obama and Michelle...dining at a fancy restaurant in Berlin, while American's can't put a turkey on the table this Thanksgiving.

There's Obama...There's Obama...There's Obama...yada, yada, yada!!!"

You know I'm right.

Besides, what's the big deal about a 20th anniversary anyway? What makes 20 years any more important than 10, or 19? Sure, the Germans decided to commemorate it in a special way, and did invite our President to attend. He decided not to go. Fine.

Either way...go, or not...he'd be criticized. There are real things to criticize him for. But, this ain't one of them.

Just my two cents.

  1. I have a good friend in Germany, and apparently Obama not going was quite the shun to the people of that country. I think his excuse of "getting ready for a trip" was just sorry as heck, and he has, yet again, ticked off those we should be in alliance with.

Of course, had he gone, we all know he woulda said something stupid and socialist and really p*ssed 'em off.

  2. The irony here last year, Mr Obama wanted to speak from the Brandenburg Gate, and Angela Merkel wouldn't let him as she didn't want one of her country's symbolic locations being used for an election campaign.

This year, he has the chance to speak from the Brandenburg Gate, and he declines.
