Having relieved myself of all pressure by my admission last week that "I don't know jack" about college football, I was able to enjoy the games on Saturday with renewed vigor. And, enjoy them I did.
#1 Florida, and #2 Alabama had bye weeks against FIU & Chattanooga. Seriously, FIU?...Chattanooga?
I love a good upset in college football (unless it's LSU on the receiving end), and not having a dog in the fight, it was fun to watch UConn put it on the Irish in front of Touchdown Jesus. Has Weis lost some weight, or did Mangino just gnaw off a hunk of his torso?
I'll swear, I know it's not Christian to pick on folks for their appearance...but c'mon! The dude gets bigger by the moment. When I saw Mangino on the sidelines yesterday in Austin, all I could think was, "I wonder how many cows had to die to make that jacket he's wearing?" Jeepers man! Eat a salad, or take a walk or something...
Take some time off, and work on your "self." It looks like that's gonna soon be arranged for you, so take advantage of it...
You and Charlie should get together...ya' know, maybe be "walking buddies" at the mall, or something. Y'all are gonna have even more in common in a couple of days than you do now.
#3 Texas looked the best I have seen them this season in defeating Kansas. But look out Mack, Pelini's 'Huskers are improving weekly, and you won't run all over Bo's defense. Gotta pull for the Huskers in the Big 12 championship. I'm a Pelini fan (I wish he'd stayed at LSU, and Miles had taken that gig at Michigan), and eldest son will soon be a Nebraskan.
Now, to the LSU loss at Ole Miss. This game convinced me of two things. It convinced me that Houston Nutt is a truly strange individual, and that Les Miles is a truly incompetent corch.
The simple fact is that my beloved Tigers did not play well enough to win that ball game. Looking at the stats, without the sheer incompetence of the Ole Miss kick return team, Les would not have had his grand opportunity to prove what a piss-poor game manager he is.
When asked about the last 1 minute and 16 seconds of the game, Miles said, "I can only tell you that the management at the back end of the game was the issue," later adding: "It's my fault that we didn't finish first in that game."
Noooooo! Really???? Les never misses an opportunity to state the abundantly obvious.
Honestly, as I watched the game tick away, I was thinking, "Miles thinks it's the end of the third quarter...he don't know it's fixin' to be over!" And, judging from some of his previous work, I may have been right. We'll never know.
But, once again, Ole Miss deserved the win. They whipped us by 136 total yards, and dominated the clock. As I said before, without Charles Scott, we can not dominate a decent defense on the ground...can not control possession time...and can not keep defenses guessing. And, we don't have confidence to punch in a 2 point conversion from 1 1/2 out. Sigh...
Congrats to the Rebels! You played well, young men. You have a really weird coach...but I reckon you know that already.
And, to wrap it all up, my mighty #5 Tribe of William & Mary fell to #4 Richmond, 13 - 10, to finish the season at 9-2. A good effort for the Tribe! Hey baby, we're going to the playoffs! The pairings will be announced this afternoon, so I'll have to wait to make my plane reservations until then.
Well, y'all have a good week! It's Thanksgiving week, so I'll have to take Thursday off from hating stinkin' Arkansas. We've got them at home on Saturday night to finish off the season. Then we'll find out what pitiful bowl we get to go to...

You're probably not going to the Rutabaga Bowl at Green Acres, because OU got the invite there.
ReplyDeleteMaybe the Boot Hill Bowl at Dodge City?
Maybe the Gila Monster Bowl in the Mojave Desert...
