Hi y'all! Hugs, kisses, yada yada yada...
Today is the National Day of Prayer. Now, I know there's always controversy on this day. The atheists have their National Day of Reason, where they organize good ways for folks to do good deeds, and that's all fine and dandy.
But I believe in God, and in the power of prayer. In fact, most folks that do, go about their daily lives doing good works for other folks sometimes, too.
So, I'm just reminding y'all to pray. Now, if you are a praying person, I'm sure you don't need a reminder...or a special day set aside to focus on it. But I believe it to be a righteous thing that our President and Congress recognize this exercise that the great majority of the US public find vital to the health of our nation.
There is a big controversy over the fact that President Obama has chosen to not participate in a "public" National Day of Prayer ceremony. I am not going to address that, as others on both sides are much better at making arguments than I am.
So, y'all pray.
Pray for President Obama, and his advisers, that he will move wisely leading our nation.
Pray for our leaders in Congress, that they will put "the general welfare" of our nation above politics.
Pray for our troops! Pray that God will give them steady hands, nimble minds, and merry hearts. Pray for the protection and health of them all, and their families.
Pray for your Pastor, and his family, that he will be a good shepherd of the flock of God.
Pray for your Governor, your Mayor, your City Councilman, your School Board, your kids' teachers, and for all the younguns that will one day be in authority when we are dead and gone.
Pray for our enemies. This is always the tough one for me...sigh...
Pray for the peace of Jerusalem.
Just pray. In my nearly 50 years, I have not seen a time that the world is more in need of the Divine Hand of God.
And oh yeah...y'all don't quit praying for Keith Olbermann...

Jackson Mayor Frank Melton died this morning. He was a good guy.
ReplyDeleteYo TD: I'm sorry to hear that. I followed (kinda) Mayor Melton's administration.
ReplyDeleteJust a short internet search tells me that you are right. He was a good guy. I remembered the "crack house smack down" thing, but didn't know how actively he tried to fix his adopted city. Good guy...
Man, he had a tough job. There have been guys like him in Shreveport. They usually lose elections, or leave town. I hope he rests peacefully...
Thanks for bringing it to my attention.
