S.N.A.F.U.!!!

And I mean SNAFU in the literal military sense...

I had told y'all that #3 son, Phillip, left for Basic Training at Fort Benning, GA a couple of days ago. Well, not so.

It seems that his paperwork was fouled up when he reported to leave. So, his fiancee' went and picked him up at MEPS on Wednesday afternoon. Actually I didn't mind. They came over on Wednesday night and had a good long visit with The Mrs. and me. It was a good last time with him before he left.

He invited us to come out to the airport to see him off, and said he'd call on Thursday when he knew his departure time. He did. It was good to see him excited, and ripping to go. The boy man rarely ever smiles. He's got beautiful, $4,000 teeth that he rarely shows. But I wanted one more picture of him and his fiancee' and implored him to "Smile!"

He did!

I know it's just a goofy fake smile to humor me...but heh...I'll take what I can get.

I'm gonna miss him.

The Mrs. took a picture of him and me (heh...I think that's a real smile). Yes, he is my son. Pay no attention to the lack of resemblance. #1 & #3 favor their Momma. #2 & #4 favor my side.

So, he's gone now. Y'all please don't forget to pray for the man.

  1. Andy, you know that the military is not the most efficient machinery out there until it comes to the real stuff.

My boy's swearing in ceremony thing was pushed back six times in four hours.

And I imagine that he will look more like you after basic, too. The height is already almost identical.

  2. Yeah Two Dogs...you know, the boy only got hefty within the last year. He wrestled in high school at 135, the bumped to like 142. Since graduation he has blossomed.

I reckon they will shave a pound or two from him.

  3. That's a fine lookin' pair of boys!

I'll be thinking and praying for the younger one while he's gone - and for the older one who's going to be worrying.

  4. Hi Staci...I'm blushing...

Not much of a boy anymore my Okie friend.

Thanks for your prayers for Phil...from what I understand, he will certainly need them! And thanks much for your prayers for this old man.

I know that boot camp is a "controlled hell," and I know it will be very good for him. But I will miss him. The boys are all becoming men...leaving the "Old Man."

    Kay Sara Sara...
