I suck! We are through 11 weeks of college football now, and I think that I have been right about twice. I've lost my touch. I remember stretches of years that I could predict with almost perfect accuracy what would happen from week to week.
No more, my friends. It's a sad thing to admit to myself.
My prediction yesterday that many of the top ranked teams would struggle, and probably lose was just flat wrong. The only elite team that even came close to a loss was my beloved LSU. We're gonna have to come to grips with the truth that without Jordan Jefferson, and Charles Scott...we just ain't very good. Jarrett Lee is a fine young man. He's just not QB enough to carry us through the next two tough games, and into a BCS bowl. Ole Miss and stinkin' Arkansas are twice the squad that Louisiana Tech is. Get healthy quick, Jordan!
But, kudos to the LA Tech Bulldogs for a Herculean effort. Poor old Corch Dooley said last week after the near upset of Boise, "I'm tired of hearing congratulations for 'being in' every game we've lost. I don't want to 'be in 'em.' I want to win 'em." Hang in there Corch...you're getting there.
I did raise the specter of an upset for USC. But, I think it's fair to say that we can quit calling a USC loss (against anybody) an upset. Do you think it is any way possible...even remotely...that the morons that vote in the polls will FINALLY give up on USC?
USC has proven that they are just an average team, in a weak conference, and in no way do they deserve the poll love. They suck!
BTW, pat on the back to Bo Pelini! His 'Huskers improved to 7-3 with a win in Lawrence. Note that 2 of Nebraska's losses were by a total of 3 points. Y'all keep a sharp eye on Nebraska the next few years. When Pelini was at LSU, I thought he deserved a shot at coaching big time college football. He's making the most of it. He's a good recruiter, and understands defense as well as anyone in his ranks. Good on ya' Bo! 7 down, and 2 to go...
And, my mighty "Tribe" of William & Mary improved to 9-1 with a close 'un over New Hampshire, 20-17. Hey...just win, baby!
So, to wrap up Sunday Morning Quarterback...I suck! I don't know jack about college football. Y'all have a good Sunday. Say a prayer. Do a good deed. Call somebody you haven't talked to in a while and give 'em some love.
And oh yeah, USC sucks.

Andy, dang I want Oregon to drop next week's game and Stanford to win over Cal. Stanford in the Rose Bowl? The Pac-10 will have officially become irrelevant to everyone, then. And I shall smile.
ReplyDeleteIf you didn't see the Bammeroid beatdown of We Suck coming, you do not listen. The Sabear told everyone that Bammer was going to kill State and he was not kidding.
It was a looog day into night of football at my place, what with there being no nagging significant other demanding we "do something." (We could launch into a major digression about football, hockey, and what constitutes the "perfect woman," but we won't. You're welcome.) The Oregon - AZ State game wasn't over until nearly midnite, and then there was SportsCenter to watch and all that.
ReplyDeleteI disagree with ya about the Pac 10... there are a lot of good teams playing out west, and I say this as a geographically neutral observer. Conventional wisdom sez the SEC is the best conference and who am I to contradict that? That said... I'm hoping Florida gets its ass handed to them come Bowl Time. I hates me some Gators. And Seminoles. And 'Canes, too. ;-)
Buck, I am a hopeless SEC homer. I never discourage disagreement, but I grew up hating the Pac-10, and old hatreds die hard.
