Yesterday, I posed a little quiz.  I was wondering if any of the astute visitors to Andy's Place would be able to define this word:

callipygian

I want to thank (sincerely) all who contributed/played/took a wild guess/etc.  Even those who Gooblecheated, and did not give away the whole deal!  Y'all are all aces in my book!  And, I truly appreciate those that did use the power of the worldwide computer to actually figure out what said obscure word means, and did not give it all away...I appreciate your honesty.

We work on the honor system around here, and you ALL receive a gold star!  You should be proud.

But, after carefully examining all the answers...using my powers of discernment (being a miserable Gooblecheat myself when it comes to quizzes), I think Cosmic wins!

Well, the "ian" at the end should indicate that it is an adjective.

The closest word that comes to mind for "Calli.." is "calligraphy" which is "beautiful writing" I think, so perhaps "calli" means "beautiful."

I'm pretty sure "pyg" means "small" as in "pygmy."

So the word should mean something like "beautifully small" or something like that.

But from the above references this clearly has something to do with the female derriere. So perhaps "pygian" means something to do with women's buttox...

So I sort of cheated and looked up the etymology of "pyg" and lo and behold, it is actually the greek root for "buttox".

So "callipygian" means, in the vernacular of the peasantry, "nice ass."

I guess I get partial credit...

See...if I'd have taken the time to break it all down, I'm sure that I'd have come up with the same dang conclusion (if I'd have known what "calli," and "pyg" meant).  But, I did not have to, because Walt told me what it meant before I axed y'all!

So, let's have a big round of applause for Cosmic! Hurrah! Go Cosmic, Go! You da man! Gimme a C...gimme an O....gimme an S...gimme an M...gimme an I...gimme a C!  What's that spell?  COSMIC!
