What dis iz???

.

Okay, with great shame as a southern boy, I gotta admit that I have not never seen one of these.  I grew up on a big old place with a bunch of bushes that "supposedly" bear these.  But, I honestly never had seen one until today.

Actually, it fell off of one of those bushes that live here at Andy's Place.  I was amazed.  I had been told that said bushes actually do bear fruit, but never...not never in 51 years have I actually seen one!

Now, I'm wondering if I should eat it?

If you know what it is, you will wins you a fabrulous prize!  The picture is not so good, but the fruit is about 2" in diameter, and there are a bunch of other ones a little bit smaller falling off, too.

I can't believe that I've NEVER seen one as long as I've lived around here...now I've got 'em dropping like flies.

I'm thinking we might ought to bake a pie or something...

  1. That looks like a crabapple, but they are supposed to be red.

  2. Paul, I grew up with crabapple bushes, too. And, they are red. Momma made the best crabapple jelly in the world.

But, this ain't a crabapple. It's 2" in diameter, which would be one heckuva big crabapple.

Honestly, I had never seen one of these things...only heard about 'em.

  3. We have something similar, it's like a cross between an apple, and a crabapple, strangely enough, we call it an "Apple Crab"
(and like all apples, they don't grow true to form from seed either, only from "cuttings").

seriously, go to gooble, and look for yellow apple crab.

  5. Dave, nope!

Marc, I goobled yellow apple crab, and you are right. They look very similar, but it's not that.

Nancy, I'll cut it open and post it. We'll see.

I'm really surprised some of our southern visitors don't know this. But then again, I'm 51, and have been living with these bushes my whole life, and it's the first one I've seen bear. Weird...
