NOT A GOOD WAY TO END THE YEAR...
"Hey Andy, can I crash on your couch tonight?" I told him well sure, and what was wrong? "I'll tell you when I get there."
About 11 o'clock, here comes Earl in a cab, and walks in the house with one doozie of what will become a shiner.
"Earl, what in the world happened?"
"Well Andy, it was like this. Me and Martha (that's his wife) were at a New Year's Eve party with the folks from her work. And I was being really good. I wasn't drinkin' or nothin'. Then the old gal running the party wanted us to all play this game where she asks you questions about your wife and you answer. It was real fun for a while until she got to me and Martha. So she says 'Earl, what is Martha's favorite kind of flower?' I said, 'that's easy, Pillsbury All Purpose.' Unfortunately Martha had been drinkin' for the both of us."
I like Earl, but he's just mud stupid...
CHICKEN SAMMICH & PEACHES BOWL. LSU 38 - GA TECH 3...
I've been saying all season, "All we need is a Quarterback." Well, now begins the most worthless 9 months of '09.
NEW YEAR 2009...REFLECTIONS & RESOLUTIONS
It's been a good year for the Andy family. Everybody's been healthy. Business was pretty good...head still above water anyway. Got another son graduated from high school & on a "life path." (3 down, 1 to go) We got the other young man (19 years old) that lives with us here graduated, too. He's finished his first semester at Community College & did real well...I was proud for him. My little 12-year-old Paul started middle school. I was worried, considering his challenges, but he's doing just fine and fitting in well. The car & the truck behaved all year & didn't bankrupt Mr. VISA again.
In '08, I had four (count 'em four) more than wonderful moments that thrilled me. My boys that live way off called me "for no particular reason"...just to visit. They don't know it, but they made my year.
Momma got much better this year. I swear, I thought she was gonna die. Her health got worse and worse when she got to where she couldn't get around. But since she got her knee replaced, she's getting around good...looks and feels better all the time. Daddy's still as healthy as an ox and works every day...my Daddy is a tough, strong, wonderful man (Oh crud, I just realized it's their anniversary...have to give 'em a call...they're in Myrtle Beach, SC on a get-away).
And The Mrs. In-law looks and feels fabulous. I'll swear, she is the best looking 74 year old widow woman you will ever run across.
Resolutions -
1) Eat more food.
I only gained 3 pounds in '08...that just will not do!
2) Get back to running religiously.
I was a competitive distance runner in my late 20's & 30's, but have really become a slug in my 40's. 50 is staring me in the face in 9 months...gotta "just do it." Momma bought me a pair of jeans for Christmas that did not fit, and it was not her fault as I had given her my size (my former size). Gotta do it.
3) Take at least half of the lawn-mowing duties off The Mrs.
She takes care of 4 yards here in the neighborhood, and it's really a lot on her as she ages.
4) Spend more time working with my stupid yellow lab Sadie.
I haven't told y'all any good Sadie stories lately. The Mrs. told me to quit picking on Sadie so much. Maybe if I work with her a little more she won't be so danged embarrassing to have around. (I mean Sadie...not The Mrs.)
5) Spend more time with old friends.
I have really been a terrible friend over the years to the guys that I grew up with. I'm gonna stay in better contact with them...I'm sure they will just be thrilled...
6) Not be pessimistic about the future of our nation, or assume the worst from an Obama administration.
This is the one that I will most likely break by tomorrow...but I wrote it down anyway.
7) Watch more college football.
There were two or three games I missed in '08 because I was doing unimportant things that got me distracted.
8) Be more grateful.
That's gonna be hard, because I'm the most grateful person that I know. But even my "glass half-full" self has it's moments. Sometimes I don't take the time to see the blessing in the dookie pile.
9) Well, there ain't no #9...that's it.
Happy New Year y'all! May God bless and prosper every one of you in '09. May the peace of Christ rest on your homes, and in your hearts. May His grace surround and comfort you during the very troubling times to come with the idiot, clueless, corrupt Barack Obama as your President, and with little hope that good sense will ever return as a hallmark of US leadership.
Guess I can cross off #6 now.

HEY Y'ALL, I FORGOT TO MENTION ONE THING...
So watch out for the other guy and wear your seat belts (and a crash helmet if you have one handy), as I want to see all of you in '09.
They don't call New Year's Eve "Amateur Night" for nothing. And it has nothing to do with the Chicken Sammich and Peaches Bowl...hopefully.
NEW YEARS EVE JUNK...
New Year's Eve Plans -
We are planning a huge celebration here at the house which we usually do on New Year's Eve. We are gonna eat dinner (still working on leftovers from Christmas), and cook s'mores. Yea really, s'mores. Our sweet little future daughter-in-law bought me and The Mrs. a s'more cooking outfit that you use in the house. It's real cool. I'm not sure how I'm gonna chop up the sticks little enough to go down in that little silver pot to build a fire, but I'll work on it. Then, I'm gonna watch football, and fall asleep during the third quarter.
I'll be sure and kiss The Mrs. Happy New Year before I do, though.
Football -
Speaking of football, I was so busy taking it easy yesterday that I forgot to give y'all my picks for yesterday's bowl games. Rice will beat Western Michigan 38 - 14, Maryland will beat Nevada 42 - 35, and finally Oregon (when are they ever gonna quit wearing those stupid yellow shoes?) will surprise Oklahoma State with a 42 -31 win.
Not bragging or nothing, but I was 3 for 3 with those picks. Speaking of Maryland beating Nevada in the Humanitarian Bowl, I heard something that just made me laugh out loud. Evidently, 7 players from Maryland were denied a start in the game yesterday, due to the fact that they had broken curfew. I thought to myself, "What in the world time was their curfew? 5 in the afternoon, or something?" Think about it...they were in stinkin' Boise, Idaho. Not San Diego, or Dallas, or Honolulu, or even Lincoln...Boise, Idaho!
What in the world could be so interesting in Boise, Idaho after 5 in the afternoon that 7 players would risk punishment to take part in it? Maybe they had a big sale at the outlet mall or something...ignorant. But they won anyway...it was just Nevada after all. And what's up with that stupid blue football field? I wonder if they could not have found a more annoying, ignorant color to paint their grass? I swear, I'll bet if they ever put a dome over that thing they'll paint the ceiling green. Heck, when I watch ball games at Bronco Stadium, I turn the color off on my set...it's kinda fun really...reminds me of my childhood.
Well, my beloved LSU Tigers finally play tonight against the Georgia Tech Engineers in the big Chicken Sammich & Peaches Bowl in Atlanta. I've got to be honest, I'm really having trouble working up a healthy game day hatred for Georgia Tech. I mean, it's easy to hate Georgia, or 'Bama, or Ole Miss, or Arkansas...I've got a lot of practice at hating other SEC teams, and it comes natural. And it's easy to hate Big 10 & Pac 10 teams, because they all suck and are too arrogant to even realize it. But Georgia Tech is different. It's hard to hate a bunch of stinkin' engineers...for the most part they're pretty nice and productive fellows.
I haven't had enough practice at hating Georgia Tech to be very good at it. But I hate 'em anyway...but just for today. I'm picking the Tigers (of course) by 14, even though it's a homer for Tech. LSU is hungry...bad hungry...to prove something (if not to the SEC, at least to themselves).
Politics -
Illinois Governor Blogovetichiskiski has appointed some old black guy to a young black guy's Senate seat & the Dems are pitchin' a shoe over it all. I say "just let it die." Let the old guy go up there to Washington for two years. Like it's really gonna matter who they send up there. He or she will vote in locked step with Obama & against good sense anyway. In two years Illinois will have an election & vote for the "people's idiot" instead of the "goobernor's idiot." Let all this mess die down and let Jessie Jackson's boy run for it fair & square...it would be a much better way to enter a Senatorial career.
World -
When is Israel gonna finally get enough of these ragheads and blow them all the way to Iran? It is past. past. past. time that somebody puts the fear of Allah into Hamas, and the Hezbos, and into those Persian donkeys. And I can't think of a bunch with a more better reason to do it than the Jews.
Well, y'all have a happy New Year's Eve. Oh yea, if you live in Australia, Happy New Year mate.

TODAY'S PILE OF DOOKIE UPDATE...
But here is an interesting line from the article:
"Louis Scott, a lawyer who has represented Bell in the past, said that preconceived notions on the part of Dillard's employees may have played a role in Bell's arrest.
"Dillard's has a tradition of being overly suspicious of young black males," Scott said."
Hmmm.....
TODAY'S LOAD OF DOOKIE...
Time passes and folks lose interest, but for about 6 months "The Jena 6" case was as unavoidable as the flu (less avoidable I guess, as you can get a shot to miss the flu). Mychal Bell became, at a very tender age, just another in the long line of black folks used by other black folks to whip up other black folks for a big rally where they could pass the collection plate.
I am not going to revisit the whole truth of the "Jena 6," but suffice it to say that 6 young black guys locked one really geeky white guy in a classroom and showed just how tough 6 young black guys can be against one geeky white guy.
Now, don't get me wrong. I've got nothing against teenagers (especially boys) standing up for themselves and their people. When I was in high school, if I had been walking down the hall at school, or at a party and some geeky white guy said, "Mychal, you niggers can't sit under our tree...we got the noose out there ready for you (which is not what really happened, but I use that for effect). Or even, "Hey Mychal, I had a blast with your Momma last night," I would be the first one to say:
"Mychal...you ain't gonna take that are you?" Then I would offer to hold the jackets, and stand back and watch Mychal beat the snot out of the geeky white dude that was stupid enough to say it, and deserved what he got. But that's not what happened.
It didn't happen that way because Myhcal Bell is not a normal high testosterone teen aged boy. He's a thug.
The MTV article here, amazingly leaves out the fact that this poor young fellow was arrested on charges of shoplifting, resisting arrest, and simple assault over the weekend at a shopping mall in Monroe, LA where he had relocated so that he could get his life straightened out.
You can read about his shopping trip here.
The MTV article proposes that Bell was "cleaning a gun" when he "accidentally" shot himself. First of all, why is a convicted criminal (even though convicted as a juvenile) allowed to be anywhere near a firearm while in foster care...especially a boy that has proven to be violent and disrespectful of the law, others, or the property of others?
The whole thing is a load of dookie. This boy tried to kill himself...I know he did. He is a troubled young man that needs real help. Some adults need to get in charge of this boy's life. Maybe Al Sharpton, or one of the thousands that "marched" in Jena on his behalf can take this young fellow in and teach him a better way. If not, this will not be the last time that Mychal Bell makes the news.

TODAY'S CAN OF WORMS.
Read the whole article from the Baton Rouge Advocate:
A couple of quotes:
NEW ORLEANS — A same-sex couple in California has won a federal court ruling that their adopted son’s Louisiana birth certificate must bear the names of both adoptive fathers.
The facts are so clear that no trial is needed, U.S. District Judge Jay Zainey wrote.
Louisiana’s Office of Vital Records must give full faith and credit to the New York State court in which Oren Adar and Mickey Ray Smith of San Diego adopted the boy, he ruled Monday. The office had refused to issue a birth certificate listing both as the boy’s legal parents. The state could appeal the decision.
Refusing to name both fathers on the birth certificate “singles out unmarried same-sex couples and their adoptive children for unequal treatment for the improper purpose of making them unequal to everyone else,” said the lawsuit filed by Regina O. Matthews, of New Orleans, and Kenneth D. Upton Jr. of Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund Inc., Dallas.
Louisiana law does not let two unmarried people adopt a child together, regardless of sex, wrote Carol L. Haynes, representing the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals and registrar Darlene W. Smith.
GOD IS GOOD!
It was a beautiful, clear afternoon. It was a little colder than I like, but I know y'all are tired of hearing my bitching about cold weather... The Mrs. had started cooking supper (her awesome broccoli cheese soup & fried corn cakes), and #3 son had gone to the airport to pick up his fiance' from her Christmas visit to Tennessee.
I was getting frustrated with my beloved Dallas Cowboys...depressed really. All of the sudden, for no particular reason, the power went out. Now, occasionally the power goes out, but normally you'll hear a big "bang" followed by honking horns, and you'll know that some danged fool has slammed into a power pole, or a transformer has exploded.
But nothing...just no electricity. It was getting dark in the house, so I lit the oil lamps and hauled one into the kitchen for The Mrs. Then I went around and lit all the candles in the house (being Christmas time, there are more than usual). The house was really beautiful...but getting cold. The central heat was out, of course, but our old house has those wonderful gas space heaters in the bathrooms. I fired them up and it was toasty right away. The Mrs. was cooking, so the heat from the cook-top helped, too.
My youngest son had snagged his flashlight and was leading me through the house as my guide/assistant. He and I sat in the kitchen and visited while Mom cooked. He's really funny...always has a new joke to tell you, and something cute to say. (a beautiful mind that one has)
Supper was almost ready, and on cue #3 son and Jana arrived from the airport. She is such a lovely girl, with a smile & a spirit that truly does light up a room. We all visited for a couple of minutes and got the table ready by lamp light. About the time we sat down to eat the power came back on...dangit! So about an hour or two later, after good food and good conversation with the kids, the Mrs. and I retired.
God is good...and He is merciful. He saved me from watching The Cowboys. I figure now, that since I didn't actually see 'em play as bad as they possibly could figure out how to, I can still be a fan. Whew!
I laid down and watched the Independence Bowl, which to my great amazement did not suck. It was actually an exciting ball game, and it looked like the crowd had a respectable number. I fell asleep after the 3rd quarter, but saw all the scoring. By the way, LA Tech won 17-10.
It was a wonderful evening. God is good...

GAY BOYCOTT
It is a very well written piece. It is even-handed, doesn't paint the gay community with a broad brush, and is very informative. The story focuses primarily on one Marjorie Christoffersen, the daughter of a restaurant owner (evidently she manages the restaurant), whose establishment is frequented by many in the gay community.
I have a few thoughts that I would like to share with y'all on this subject. First of all, I have no problem with boycotts. Even though I've never participated in one, I firmly believe that any individual with a gripe against a business, or institution is well within their rights to boycott, and encourage others to do so as well.
I don't care what the particular issue is...it's okay with me. If the Sierra Club wants to call for a boycott of Walmart because they didn't put enough sod on the roof during their "green" construction of a new SuperCenter... Okay. If Don Wildmon, or James Dobson call for a boycott of Colgate toothpaste, or every advertiser of some hideous anti-righteousness television program... Okay. If GLAAD calls for a boycott of every advertiser that sponsors James Dobson's, or Sean Hannity's, or even Michael Savage's radio programs... Okay. Thank God we can still do that. Personally I find these efforts pretty foolish on a broad scale. But the microcosm of a boycott can be very harmful...almost always with unintended consequences.
Evidently this El Coyote (that's Mexican for 'the coyote') restaurant in Los Angeles has been severely harmed by a local boycott by gay activists. Now, as I read this, the El Coyote was a popular hangout for gays. I am positive that this Mrs. Christofferson had made many, many friends of the regulars. And I am almost certain that many (if not most) of the gay patrons of this joint don't really care that she contributed an astounding $100 to the campaign to pass Prop 8.
Therein lies the first rub with me. I am just projecting my own mindset here...I wonder how many gay patrons of El Coyote would just love to act like a grown-up human that likes the food, the atmosphere, and the service at this establishment, yet may be made to feel like a traitor to the cause if they buy a beer & a taco from a restaurant with an "evil, inhumane, civil rights stealing, Mormon" manager. Once again, just projecting...I would bet that a huge majority don't really care, but the pressure to get "in line" causes them to stay away.
The second rub on this whole story...and this is the one that rubs me raw...is that while Mrs. Christoffersen has made a heart-felt apology to this group boycotting the restaurant (not an apology for her contribution, nor for her deeply held beliefs either...only an apology for any offense), that's not good enough! No, they won't drop the boycott until she contributes $100 to the effort to repeal Prop. 8.
Now, my first thought was "Man, how sandbox is that?" "Waaa...waaa...waaa....you gave them a hundwed dowlars...if you're weally sowwy, you'll give us a hundwed dowwars...waaa...waaa...waaa...then we'll know that you weally, weally sowwy, and we'll wet evwybody come back to your wittle westauwant!"
But my first thought is probably not correct. No, it's more than infantile tit-for-tatism. It is a truly demonic mindset that seeks to humiliate another by forcing them to do something that clearly violates their principled faith. Having principles should cost you something. Truthfully, if your principles don't cost you anything, you'll never know if you are rooted in them, or if they are rooted in you. (whichever is correct)
I have many more thoughts on this, and several stories I could share...but I just offer this to you as food for thought.
LOS ANGELES -- Soon after California's passage of a initiative banning same-sex marriage last month, dozens of gay activists descended on the El Coyote restaurant with signs and placards. They chanted "Shame on you," cussed at patrons and began a boycott of the cafe.
The restaurants's crime: A daughter of the owner donated $100 to support Proposition 8, the antigay-marriage initiative approved by voters. Gay activists have refused to lift the boycott -- which restaurant managers say has slashed revenues by 30% -- even after some El Coyote employees raised $500 to help repeal the new ban.

WEEKEND BOWL PICKS...
I need to apologize to y'all, because in the rush of Christmas activity, I forgot to give y'all my pick for the very exciting, highly anticipated match-up between Florida Atlantic & Central Michigan in the De-Troit Motor City Bowl yesterday. Trust me...somebody won...and somebody look terrible. I'm not sure who sucked, but I know for sure that somebody did. Don't ask me how I know. I just do.
There are three games today, but only two that seem interesting to me.
Champs Sports Bowl
When: Dec. 27, 4:30 p.m., ESPN
Where: Orlando, Fla.
Who: Florida State vs. Wisconsin
Emerald Bowl
When: Dec. 27, 8 p.m., ESPN
Where: San Francisco
Who: Miami vs. California
Now, I am forced to do something that I have dreaded all bowl season. I have to make a prediction on the stinkin' Independence Bowl. Oh, for the good old days of LSU-Notre Dame, Oklahoma State-Texas A&M, Alabama, Ole Miss, Air Force, Wisconsin, Missouri...
The Indy Bowl is the only college game on Sunday, so at least you'll have some pro stuff to watch. While most of you won't, I reckon I will. I thought about driving over to Independence Stadium to watch the game. It is only a 10 minute drive. You'll be able to park right up next to the stadium, and pick any seat in the house that you want. In fact, probably mid-first quarter you won't even need a ticket.
I think I will, as this is likely to be the last Independence Bowl. I want to say "I was there." Y'all don't get me wrong. I love Louisiana Tech...a fine institution...enjoyed my time there...blahdy bladhy blah... But c'mon. Oh well...
Independence Bowl
When: Dec. 28, 8 p.m., ESPN
Where: Shreveport, La.
Who: Northern Illinois vs. Louisiana Tech
Gotta go with Louisiana Tech in what is a 70-mile road trip home game against a bunch of guys from Obamaland/Blagoland, etc. It should be a very exciting game, and I predict the Bulldogs will beat the whatever they ares (Oh, I just found out that they're the Huskies...that's a dog too, I think) from DeKalb, Illinois by 2 points. LA Tech 2 - N. Ill 0
It will be one of the closest Independence Bowls we've ever seen...or will ever see again sadly.
But y'all can still get tickets. Have a good bowling weekend. And if Dallas gets beat by Philadelphia, I will swear off watching the Cowboys ever again! Ever! Humph.

JOSEPH LOWERY SPEAKS OUT...WHAT'D HE SAY?
He came late to the table with the "abolitionist card" because the Union was ready to quit...and slavery seemed like a good way to keep the Union's head in the game.
Don't get me wrong...I ain't agreeing with old "honest abe," but facts are stubborn things.
The very idea that using Lincoln's Bible to swear Oprampha into the US Presidency is somehow "unifying" is utterly ridiculous. Yea BarackO'...pick the Bible of a real "unifier" that only killed about a million men, destroyed two generations of Americans, and set the progress of North America (and consequently the world) back about 50 years! Good choice Barry...be sure and model your administration after his...
But when I saw this video from MSNBC (excuse me while I throw up) of Joseph Lowery being interviewed, I must admit that I was disappointed. I always had a lot of respect for Lowery. Heck, I don't know...maybe he's got the Barry Goldwater senility thing going on, and Obama decided to exploit him, too. It wouldn't surprise me.

BREAKFAST AT DARRELL'S...
I called my best old friend from childhood & young adulthood (who lives very near me, and I hardly every visit with...my fault, not his), and asked him if he'd like to meet up with us. I did that because he's real rich & always picks up the check. He said "Yep...I'll pay." That was music to my ears.
I've been suffering from the creeping crud throughout the holidays, and almost called to tell them I wouldn't make it. But I suffered on, and went to Darrell's Grill to meet them. I figured I'd "spread the love," and be sure to send my old friend back to Colorado with the special "holiday gift" of a miserable flu-like cold.
I'm glad I toughed it out. Us old guys sat there for an hour and half, talking about our kids, our wives, old friends, business, politics, old times, the worthless jackasses we grew up with that would love to be just like us right now, etc.
I felt completely rotten when I got there this morning. But when I walked out of Darrell's Grill, I felt like I had had a dose of medicine. I gotta get out more often...
SHIRLEY SAYS "HAPPY KWANZAA!" TOO...

HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS...
It has been a real joy. I missed my two oldest boys this Christmas, but at least I had my two brothers, my sister, their families, The Mrs., two of my boys, another young man that we are raising, my Momma & Daddy, The Mrs. Inlaw & brother-in-law.
The Mrs. & I (and the boys) lived away from "home" for about five years. I didn't mind it so much. We had one of those fancy telephones to stay in touch. But it was kinda hard around Christmas to be away. It's hard to be away from folks you love, but even harder to be away from folks that love you.
I'm getting old I guess. I love "home." I worked "on the road" for about four years in a restaurant maintenance business that a friend and I started. I covered routes in East Texas, North & South Louisiana, North & South Mississippi, the Alabama/Florida Gulf Coast, & Arkansas (man, could I tell you some stories about working in Arkansas!).
It was good money, and I was providing for a big clan at the time. But I just hated being away from "home." I would be gone from "home" for 3, 5, 7, sometimes 11 days, leaving The Mrs. to handle 4 boys on her own...no light duty for sure.
I lived in more dumpsters than I care to remember, usually a $30 Motel 6, or some other "Indian Retreat." (or as we called them 'Patel Motels') Man, I missed my bed, my shower, my kids, and most of all my wife. I reached the "breaking point" finally when I was in Meridian, Mississippi.
Now, I had stayed in some bad places. I once stayed at The West Plains Motel on Porter Wagoner Blvd. in West Plains, Missouri (Porter was from a lovely little town...) I was asleep on my back, and felt an itching on my chest. I reached up with my right hand to scratch, looked down, and there was a mouse in my hand. I threw the miserable rodent across the room, and into a window which promptly shattered.
I called up to the office and told the manager "I just broke a window with a mouse." He didn't seem at all surprised. He said, "I am very sorrying for the pestings! Sirrr....I will bringing some mousetrappings." I told him we could bait the mousetrappings with my Cheetos (which I discovered had been infiltrated by friends and family of the recently deceased mouse). He agreed!
Back to the "breaking point." My partner had equipment problems and couldn't get to the two restaurants we had a contract with in Meridian, MS & Tuscaloosa, AL. I told him that I would be running my North Mississippi route and would take care of it. I had been on the road for 5 days when I pulled into Meridian, MS looking for a place to stay for the day (I slept days & worked nights when the restaurants were closed). There was "no room in the Inn." Evidently, the Meridian Naval Air Station was having a big event that weekend & everything was booked. I tried everything! I was dog tired...but I saw another motel sign and pulled in (just hoping).
I almost didn't stop because the sign said, "Rooms $15." But I was so worn out...
I parked my pickup and rig and walked to the office. On the door of the office there was a sign that read "SORRY...WE'RE OPEN!" I went inside and behind the desk was a woman that bore an amazing resemblance to "Large Marge" from Pee Wee's Big Adventure. If you don't remember Marge...
Well, Marge had a Camel hanging from her lips, was reading a "Playgirl" magazine, and coughing up blood. I asked her if she had a room for the day. She said, "Do you need it for the whole day?" I said, "Yes ma'am, but I will be leaving about 11 tonight." "Okay," she said. "Which one do you want?" I said, "You pick."
She handed me a key to room 3. I gave her $15, grabbed my bag from the truck, and headed to Room 3. There was carpet...it was soaked with water from the toilet that was overflowing & still running. There were sheets on the bed...no blanket, just sheets. I walked back over to the office and asked Marge if that was the best they had. She said, "Whataya' expect for $15?"
I summoned up all my Christianity, thanked her, gave her the key back, got in my truck, found a truck stop on I-20, pulled up next to the big-rigs, slept in the cab until dark, took a $4 shower in the truck stop, did my job in Meridian, drove to Tuscaloosa, did my job there...
...pulled my pickup and rig on to I-20 just about daybreak, turned it West, set the cruise control on 90, and only stopped for gas and to tinkle. I pulled into Bossier City late the next night. I came in, took a shower, kissed my wife, and swore I'd never leave "home" again.
The next day I began to divest myself of my obligations in that business, and started working on another way to make a living. Financially, it was a struggle for a while. But I didn't care...I was "home." The Mrs. didn't even seem to care much about the finances. I think she was glad that I was "home," too. It took us a while, but we managed our way into a decent business that keeps us together.
Don't get me wrong...I'm not cursing the past, or past decisions. I sure learned a lot in those years away from home...about myself, about The Mrs. ...about a lot of things. But mostly I learned that there really is no place like home.

MERRY CHRISTMAS Y'ALL!

Well, I have a confession to make. Last night I had a really bad case of the reds over a stupid editorial written by a stupid person, and I labeled all of a "certain group of people" that reside mostly in South Louisiana as "just plain stupid."
But after watching an excellent football game between TCU & Boise State (Which by the way I had predicted would be a "squeaker," and a TCU win. I had called it 20-17, but it was squeekier than that at 17-16...and an excellent ball game), and had prayed through my ugliness, I am now ready to enjoy the celebration of the birth of Jesus.
I won't be posting anthing for a few days probably. Even if I hit the nail on the head with my prediction that Hawaii will murder Notre Dame, I will not come back to gloat, or take my medicine for being wrong, because it's just Notre Dame, and nobody cares either way.
Going to Momma & Daddy's this afternoon. My two brothers and sister will be there with most of their families (we all live here within about 20 miles of each other). I've got two gone this year (again). My oldest son & his wife in Monterey, CA couldn't get away. And #2 son in Columbus, OH is on a new job and couldn't ask for time off.
I don't know if we'll ever have all the boys back again for Christmas, as they are all scattering now. But if we don't, it'll be okay. We've got them in our hearts.
We'll be with The Mrs.' Momma & brother tomorrow. It'll be nice.
And I want to tell all of y'all that visit this blog how much I love you (except for Mr. Anonymous that called me an ugly name that time that I took up for Martin Luther King...I don't hate him though...I'm just neutral on him. Hatred is reserved for the opponents of LSU).
I hope y'all all have the merriest Christmas you've ever had. And I mean it.
Love, Andy

COONASSES ARE JUST PLAIN STUPID!
This is an editorial advising President Bush to pardon Edwin Edwards from his last 4 plus years in Federal Prison.
My conclusion: Coonasses are just plain stupid. I'm not going to put the whole ignorant editorial here, but I will show you a few excerpts to prove my point that Coonasses are just plain stupid.
Paragraph 2 from the editorial: (please note that this is transcribed through copy and paste...I didn't do anything to make this seem more stupid than it already is) Every reasonable andcompassionate person in the state believes Edwards has been punished enough. At age 81, a ten-year sentence is inhumane, unconsciousable and tantamount to a death sentence. Keeping him in prison serves no useful purpose; absolutely none.
Note the new addition to the dictionary "unconsciousable." That is coonass for "I'm so retarded I don't know what I'm writing."
The editorial continues: "More importantly, his good name and reputation have been tarnished for posterity.
There are two myths that we need to address. First, is the widespread belief, fostered by the government, that Edwards made his money in politics.
This is absolutely false."
I repeat, Coonasses are just plain stupid.
Here's a good one: "Those who know him know he never extorted anyone in his life.
The second myth is that government in Louisiana is corrupt and that all elected officials are crooks."
I repeat, Coonasses are just plain stupid.
It gets better: " He is the only man in the long history of the state to have been elected four times to the office of governor. Common sense dictates that he must have done something right. Voters in this state are not stupid."
I would repeat, but this idiot thinks that coonasses are not stupid, so there's no helping 'em.
Here is the last quote from the whole ignorant editorial that I find funny: "And if he is such a bad person, why have seven federal judges visited him in prison? Do federal judges make it a practice to visit people in prison?"
Yes, you idiot...especially if they're trying to keep him shut up. You didn't mention that 5 of the 7 federal judges that visit him are in his cell block.
Coonasses are just plain stupid.
MIDWEEK BOWL PICKS...
This one gets 4 poinsettias. It is probably gonna be the best non-BSCS game we'll see. Watch it! Boise State is undefeated, of course. TCU has lost twice this season to a couple of "weak sisters." Oklahoma. Utah. These guys have a very impressive defense. I'm taking TCU over Boise State in a squeaker (20-17).
On to Christmas Eve and the Sheraton Hawaii Bowl which features The Notre Dame Fighting Irishwomen vs. The Hawaii Rainbow Hula-Hoop Boys. Now, I have a couple of questions about this one. First of all, "What in the heck is Notre Dame doing in a bowl game?" I mean, I know there are about 58 bowls now, so it ain't real hard to get in one. But Notre Dame? As bad as The Independence Bowl selection of Northern Illinois was, I'm just glad they didn't ask Notre Dame.
I give this one half a shoop-shoop for interest. Thank God my Momma & Daddy will be doing their Christmas get together during this game, so no one will accidentally turn the TV on and ruin an otherwise nice evening.
Hawaii wins this one 34 to 10. The 'Dame will go to an impressive (0-10) in their last decade of bowl games.
Notre Dame is already off to a bad start. Shortly after arriving in Honolulu, in order to fire up his squad, Charlie Weis ate a young Hawaiian couple walking out of a Family Buffet. So, PR is already working against The 'Dame.
Things didn't get any better when Charlie took the whole team and the cheerleaders to Waikiki Beach for a little rest & relaxation. The paparazzi was still hanging around looking for Obama, and snapped these photos.

IF YOU'RE EATING DINNER, THIS AIN'T A GOOD TIME TO LOOK AT THIS...
His name is DeAndre Brown. Here is what I was talking about. Thanks TD.
I WAS RIGHT...
Okay, my prediction for the New Orleans Bowl was half right. I wrote: Actually, the New Orleans Bowl on Sunday might be a pretty good game. It features Troy vs. Southern Miss...two good teams with state pride in play. I'm taking Troy by 3 (30-27).
As it turned out, I had the score perfectly currekt! I just had the winner wrong. But I'll tell y'all, that was one entertaining college football game to watch. I love to watch talented guys play the game, and both teams have more than a few guys that might be playing on Sunday in a few years. It was a good game...I'll look at it next year.
The only bad thing was when that boy broke his leg. I'll tell y'all, I don't think I've ever seen anything like it. Early in the game, this young wide receiver for Southern Miss went down the field looking to catch a touchdown pass near the end zone. The pass wasn't spot-on, and he turned back to catch it. The Troy Trojan that was covering him didn't hit him...their legs didn't get tied up...nothing! But that receiver (I can't remember his name right now) fell to the ground. His leg was up in the air, and I swear, that young man looked like he had two knees on the same leg. It was like his leg just snapped off about 6 inches below his knee.
The fellow from Troy that was covering him looked down and started screaming at the fellows on the sideline for help. The receiver that was hurt pulled his helmet off, and threw it half-way to Biloxi...I knew he was hurt. Bad. Real bad.
Later on in the game, the brilliant play-by-play crew gave an update stating that this fellow was at University Hospital in New Orleans and it had been confirmed that he had a "lower leg fracture." Really????? No...Really???? But it was a good game anyway, and I got the score right.
I was right about my beloved Dallas Cowboys, too. I knew that my 'Boys were going to lose their last home game at Texas Stadium. I just knew it. My 'Boys are doing their very best, week by week, to miss the playoffs. It's almost like there is some kind of thought process going on in Dallas that says, "Hey, we got to the playoffs and lost last season...if we don't get to the playoffs, then it'll be impossible to lose a playoff game...so let's just stink up the regular season and we won't face that same disappointment again." Hopefully, next week The Eagles will want to lose more than the Cowboys do. We shall see which team loves defeat the most.
And, I was right also about the Detroit Lions/New Orleans Saints game. I have been looking through my word book for a way to describe just how bad the Detroit Lions are...but there ain't one in there. The Lions are the worst team in the State of Michigan...pro, college & high school included. When you lose 42-7 at home, to a team that's not going to the playoffs...you really can make a stockyard smell bad.
I was busy, so I only watched a little bit of the game. But I thought about Bobby Bare's old country music song "Detroit City." Bobby sang, "Last night I went to sleep in Detroit City..." I'm glad to know that Bobby's doing so well now, and playing for the Lions. Man, those guys are terrible. They remind me of the expansion Tampa Bay Bucaneers, except they aren't that good, and not nearly as funny.
I loved following the Bucs through their 1976 season (0-14 if memory serves...The Lions have eclipsed them only because they play 16 games now), because QB Doug Williams was a Louisiana boy. I have met Doug since he retired...fine gentleman to be sure. But I especially loved coach John McKay. He was one card for sure. I remember an interview he gave once where the reporter asked him about his legacy as a coach. McKay answered "Legacy? I don't care about how I'm remembered. What I want out of life is a fat wallet & a smooth backswing."
I got to looking around the computer and found this collection of McKay quotes. Enjoy:
Vintage John McKay
One of the highlights of the 1976 season though were the quotes from John McKay. Not just content with being a good coach, McKay was at his hilarious best throughout the 14-game losing streak in that expansion season and beyond.
“It bothers me that they (the national media) have picked us to be the worst team in football. Because what they are doing now is challenging your physical and your mental capacity and my ability to coach you. Now, this hurts me. Second worst team, I could stand it. But not the worst team.”

“We’ve broken down the expansion teams and they’ve averaged winning 2.7 games their first year, which to me is rather difficult. I figured out the 2, but the .7 has got me wondering what the hell is going on.”
When he heard that one of the kickers during training camp, Pete Rajecki, had mentioned he was nervous kicking in front of his coach, McKay asked that the press “Tell Mr. Rajecki that I plan to attend all the games.”
"Kickers are like horse manure. They're all over the place."
"We didn't tackle well today but we made up for it by not blocking."
"Intensity is a lot of guys that run fast."
"Emotion is highly overrated in football. My wife Corky is emotional as hell but can't play football worth a damn."
On his team's blocking strategy: "Hold when you're at home and don't hold when you're on the road."
"If you have everyone back from a team that lost ten games, experience isn't too important."
On how coaching an expansion team is a religious experience: "You do a lot of praying, but most of the time the answer is 'no.' "
“I’ll probably take a little time off and go hide somewhere. We will be back. Maybe not this century, but we will be back and we will be a better football team.”
On the Buccaneers poor special-teams play, “They were absolutely horrible and that’s the best thing I can say. Besides that they were bad. These people are not poorly paid you know.”
On the play of Joe Namath in the Jets 34-0 victory over Tampa Bay, “Namath is still Namath, but I must say that our guys were nice to him. I noticed when they knocked him down, they helped him to his feet. That was gentlemanly. I thought one stood around long enough to get his autograph.”
On how badly the Bucs looked in losing to the Steelers 42-0, “There were times I felt like leaving the stadium and hitchhiking home.”
"If a contest had ninety-seven prizes, the ninety-eighth would be a trip to Green Bay."
On Tampa Bay ending its 26-game losing streak: "Three or four plane crashes and we're in the playoffs."
Well, that's about it. I was right...kinda.

LOUISIANA LOVE...JERRY LEE LEWIS, FATS DOMINO, RAY CHARLES, AND SOME BRITISH DUDE...
I took piano lessons for three years. Finally my teacher, Mrs. Lucille Green told Momma she was wasting her money. But The Mrs. can tickle the ivories pretty good...
Dang, that sounds obscene. She can play the piano pretty good. Two Louisiana boys, a Georgia boy, and some Stoned Roller from the continent of England...
NEW FEATURE ON URBAN REDNECK... SUNDAY RECIPE SWAP...
Every Sunday, I'm gonna ax y'all to share a recipe with me. I never was much of a cook, but I am a pretty good eater, and I can pass 'em along to The Mrs.
Actually, as I've gotten older I've learned to enjoy cooking...I make a mean WalMart "Great Value Hash Browns" for breakfast. And my "meatball sandwich" is still legendary in this household.
I'm gonna kick it off by asking for "Pie Recipes." Now, I want something sinful. If somebody gives me something like "Rhubarb Pie," or anything without sugar, I'll know that they are just ignorant and have wasted their time.
I'll kick it off with my personal favorite, "Buttermilk Pie." Some folks call it "Sugar Pie." It's kinda like a custard pie...really sweet, really easy, and guaranteed to expand your waistline.
I never was a big pie fan, but the first time I went to Arkansas to meet my future wife's Grandma I found one I liked. (Cecil, AR...near Ozark, about 50 miles from Fort Smith)
Grandma Ryker was about 70 years old then. She was a tough old gal. She was big, strong, ran about 150 head of cattle on her farm, bailed her own hay, and challenged me to an arm wrestling match the first day we were there. (I declined...I told her "It's taken me too long to win your granddaughter's heart. I'm not gonna mess it up by getting whipped by her Grandma." She laughed...we were good friends until she passed on.)
She made buttermilk pies. She looked at me and said, "Eat this. You'll like it." I said "yes ma'am." And she was right. Here it is.
NAKED GOVERNORS...
From the Chicago Tribune article:
The scene imagines Blagojevich handcuffed and wearing an orange jumpsuit pulled down to his knees.
Among the onlookers is a guard, with a look of grim determination, pulling on a rubber glove.
The painting, which is taking Elliott a little over a week to finish, is titled: "The Cavity Search."
That's pretty funny really. This is the same guy that painted a naked Sarah Palin...truthfully, I think I'd rather look at that.
A nude portrait of the governor, by artist Bruce Elliott, is nearly complete and will hang on the wall of Elliott's wife's bar, the Old Town Ale House, next to his infamous depiction of a naked Sarah Palin. It is the next installment in what Elliott loosely calls his "nude governor series."
I got to thinking about that "naked governor series" this old boy is working on. And I'll tell y'all, there are just some governors I don't want to look at naked. Take a look at the pictures of US Governors here.
Okay, Janet Napolitano, Jodi Rell, Ruth Minner, and Linda Lingle should never be naked. Ever. Ever. Even if they're taking a bath they should remain clothed...preferably up to and including the face.
Now to the guys. I don't want to see my Govenor Bobby Jindal naked. I'll bet his scrawny rear end...well, never mind. Haley Barbour of Mississippi...nyuk, nyuk, nyuk...walrus time there!
Billy Bob Richardson of New Mexico & Jim Doyle of Wisconsin...chunk-blowing time folks.
Truthfully, there aren't but two or three there on the list that I think could pull it off...one has already been mentioned in this post, and you can probably figure out the others on your own.
MAN, CAN I PICK 'EM, OR WHAT?
I wrote this:
"The only one that looks good to me is The Pioneer Bowl. BYU takes on Arizona...yep, Arizona. I pick

RIDDLE ME THIS BATMAN...WHAT DO YOU CALL A 29 YEAR OLD WOMAN WITH 10 CHILDREN????

Sometimes I just shake my head...maybe I should just eat my .45...
This article by RoNeisha Mullin in the Flint, Michigan paper says it all. Dang...
MORE PETE...
The money quote from this one. Bob Lanier "...this is a white boy I'm talkin' 'bout. This ain't no brother, but he musta had some brother in him..."
PETE...
I had forgotten how good The Pistol really was until I stumbled across a video tribute. As a kid growing up in Louisiana, he was a real hero to me and my brothers.
Pete had a sense that few other people do. He always knew exactly where everyone was on the court. He didn't have to see them to know, he just knew. And he knew exactly what everybody was doing. He didn't have to think about who was open, or how to get them the ball, or when to take the shot himself...it was magic to watch. In fact, it was "spooky."
Pete "made" basketball at LSU. Tiger fans would pay 10 bucks to watch two kids throw a football under a street lamp, but basketball may as well have been women's lacrosse in Baton Rouge. Then along came Pete. When he entered LSU, NCAA rules didn't allow Freshmen to play varsity ball. The arena would fill up for the Freshman Game, and then empty out soon after (before the varsity game started).
Pete is still the all-time leading scorer in NCAA Division 1 history with 3,667 points. That is without the benefit of a Freshman season, or a 3 point line. Coach Dale Brown later charted every game Maravich played, and calculated that Pete would have averaged 13 three-pointers a game...yep, 13, bringing his per game average to 57 (instead of the measley 44.2 that he finished his college career with).
His influence on LSU athletics can not be overstated. He never played a game at the LSU Assembly Center, but it was always known as "The House That Pete Built." Or, as Dick Vitale named it "The Deaf Dome." 6 months after his death in 1988 it was renamed "The Maravich Assembly Center."
Before his sudden death at age 40, Pete had become a committed Christian, and very active with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He spent his short retirement encouraging young people on the straight road of life. Heckuva guy...heckuva talent...
BOVINE LESSON...
But one must also be careful...
Sometimes you can reach too far !
But when you find yourself over-extended and you're stuck in a situation that you can't get out of, there is one thing you should always remember.......

MEMORY LANE #298
But when I saw the title "Moon River," it brought back just too many memories. I dropped a link to an Audrey Hepburn tribute. This is the video:
The Mrs. has been bugging me for weeks about what I want for Christmas. I have decided that I want a VCR tape (yes, I have a VCR player) of "Breakfast at Tiffany's." It just don't get any better than Audrey and George...and I think Andy (not me...Andy Williams) sings Moon River on the soundtrack. Not to mention that Uncle Jed is in the film...it can't get any better than that.
The Mrs. was happy. She found one on Ebay for $2 (shipping included.)
A DISAPPOINTING YEAR IN LOUISIANA...
Yep, it's been less than a year since Bobby Jindal assumed office...and what a "less than a year" it has been. Now, y'all don't get me wrong...Bobby is still my buddy. In fact, here are a couple of pictures of me clowning around with him at his Inaugural Ball in Baton Rouge...that was a fun evening that I will never forget...especially that dance that I had with Mary Landrieu.

Bobby has had so much good press outside of Louisiana that y'all may not know what a poor job he's done. He got accolades from leading conservatives like Rush Limbaugh, & Grover Norquist...and a bunch of others. There was swirling talk about Bobby being McCain's running mate...and now he's already on everybody's short list to run for President in 2012.
But...us Louisiana conservatives elected Bobby to go down and beat the snot out of the worthless liberal crooks that elevated Louisiana to the top of every "bad list" for the last 40 years. As much as I like Bobby, it has been very, very disappointing. We've had to drag Bobby kicking and screaming into every tiny break we could get. His reluctance to lead has caused many LA conservatives to leave the Republican Party...some openly saying they wish they had never supported him.
I'm giving him grace. I know he's bit into a tough nut, and he may have a grand strategy that will fool us all. But y'all don't get too excited just yet about new "conservative leadership"...at least not out of Louisiana.
TIME TO GO BOWLING...
You can get the full schedule right here.
Saturday features something called the Eagle Bank Bowl...obvious in need of a bailout. Then there is something called The New Mexico Bowl...wonder where they play that one? Then something I can't figure out called the magicJack St. Petersburg Bowl...I'm pretty sure where they play it, but I don't know what the heck magicJack is.
The only one that looks good to me is The Pioneer Bowl. BYU takes on Arizona...yep, Arizona. I pick BYU by 75 (78 to 3). The game is in the winter wonderland of Las Vegas which suits BYU. The Mormons won't be hitting the casinos. And Arizona sucks. I'm giving 'em 3 points because I give everybody 3 points.
Actually, the New Orleans Bowl on Sunday might be a pretty good game. It features Troy vs. Southern Miss...two good teams with state pride in play. I'm taking Troy by 3 (30-27).
Hang onto that link for the bowl schedule, because it does get more interesting later on. A few tips...skip the Independence Bowl (Louisiana Tech vs. Northern Illinois). On second thought you might want to watch it so you can tell your kids and grandkids, "I saw the last Independence Bowl ever!"
And I am SO LOOKING FORWARD to New Year's Eve when LSU plays Georgia Tech in the Chicken Bowl...dangit...well, maybe we can beat a bunch of brainiac engineers...dangit.
I'll keep y'all updated as the bowl season rocks along.
TIME FOR ANOTHER GAME...
Who is your role model?
1) Pick your favorite number between 1-9
2) Multiply by 3

STILL TOO DANGED COLD!!!
But it has been below freezing way too early, my bony frame shivers all day, and we haven't seen the Sun in weeks. I don't know how Alaskans like Sarah Palin can keep such a rosy outlook on life. Maybe they just burn down church buildings to keep warm.
I am just about to throw a shoe! (no joke intended...well maybe) The Mrs. told me "Don't even think about throwing a shoe at me...I'll pull the shoestring and throw it back!!!" I just love her...
OBAMA VISITS CAJUN COUNTRY...
Obama spokesmen have denied that he visited Louisiana, but I know better. What other human on the planet could split the clouds like that?

Some quotes from the Houma Daily Comet article (don't you just love that name?) -
Some people saw Jesus. Others blamed UFOs.
It wasn't Jesus. It was his successor. It wasn't a UFO. Dennis Kucinich was in Washington making a special order speech decrying the war in Vietnam.
Shawn O’Neil, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Slidell, identified the phenomenon as a hole-punch cloud.
“They don’t occur all that often, and they are usually caused when an aircraft intersects altocumulus or cirrocumulus clouds,” he said.
Aircraft? Sure...Obama don't need no stinkin' aircraft to get around.
“It was the weirdest thing I’ve ever seen,” said Raceland resident Sandra Ledet...It completely circled my house and then disappeared. It was too big, too round and too low to be caused by a jet.”
You're danged right Sandra... That hole wasn't made by a jet! I bet Obama got hungry for some crawfish and just popped in. In a related story, New Orleans radio is reporting that over the weekend, all substandard levees have been miraculously strengthened, the Twin Span Bridge has been completed, the Ninth Ward is a lush garden-like housing development, and the New Orleans Police Department plans to lay off 500 patrol officers due to the fact that crime has come to a standstill in the area all the way from New Orleans down to Grand Isle. That is definitely an Obamahole!

I WISH HARMON HAD TOLD ME ABOUT THIS YEARS AGO!
Hi Andy,
Most of the American population thinks it improper to spank children, so I have tried other methods to control my kids when they have one of 'those moments.'
One that I found effective is for me to just take the child for a car ride and talk.
Some say it's the vibration from the car, others say it's the time away from any distractions such as TV, Video Games, Computer, IPod, etc.
Either way, my kids usually calm down and stop misbehaving after our car ride together. Eye to eye contact helps a lot too.
I've included a photo below of one of my sessions with my son, in case you would like to use the technique.
Love, Harmon
p.s. I'm still sorry that my boss-man fired you!
Y'ALL CAN COME TO MY HOUSE TO SWIM...PUBLIC POOLS MAY BE CLOSING...
Now, the event that precipitated our Congress (which obviously had nothin' to do that day) to pass this law was a tragic one. The 7-year-old granddaughter of James Baker (yea, THAT James Baker) died in a pool while being held under water by the sucking drain. I don't want to minimize, or make light of the loss of a little girl at all. And to be straightforward, the Nannies had wanted this law long before Baker's granddaughter drowned. I'm sorry for the whole family.
But c'mon! What is the Federal Government gonna do next? Require lifeguards at swimming holes? Shut down beaches in Florida because somebody might get bit by a shark? Shut down skydiving because somebody's parachute didn't open? Shut down NASCAR because somebody got killed in a wreck? Shut down college football because
The whole AP article is here. But some highlights...
Hotel Spas??? Heck, that's the only reason me and The Mrs. go to Hot Springs...the hot tub at The Arlington Hotel...a little bit of heaven on earth my friends... Did you know that they have to cool the water from the springs before it deposits into the Arlington Hotel hot tub so you can enjoy it, because it's so hot coming out of the ground? Well, now you do!
80% of 300,000 is 240,000...I think...that's a lot of missed recreation.
Financial burden on my local government? Fix the potholes on Hwy 80...I'll stay away from the pool drain myself, dangit!
I'm sorry, I know that even one kid's death is terrible! But I don't want to see a ban on bicycles, and cars in residential areas. (a much deadlier hazard than swimming pool drains)
I swear, I just don't know what to do... It makes you want to dig a hole and bury yourself in it...not to avoid danger...to hide from Nanny.
ODD OKIE...
I'm sure Billy is a good man, but he always seemed just a bit off-kilter to me. I guess you can't really call him an Okie...or not just an Okie. He was born in Missouri, went to high school in Texas, then played for Barry Switzer at Oklahoma. (well there ya go...light bulb moment!...Switzer could screw up a one car funeral...that's probably what happened to Billy)
On Saturday when the Heisman Trophy was awarded to OU Quarterback Sam Bradford, Billy was in attendance as a former trophy winner himself. I think Billy got a little excited.
Editorial note: For commie idiots that don't know college football, "Boomer" is what they holler at OU, and then somebody hollers "Sooner" back at 'em. I don't know what it means, and neither do they, but they're just a bunch of ignorant Okies anyway, so it don't matter.
You know, OU has a real catchy and creative fight song. If you never heard it, these are the lyrics.
- Boomer Sooner, Boomer Sooner,
- Boomer Sooner, Boomer Sooner,
- Boomer Sooner, Boomer Sooner,
- Boomer Sooner, O-K-U!
- Oklahoma, Oklahoma,
- Oklahoma, Oklahoma,
- Oklahoma, Oklahoma,
- Oklahoma, O-K-U!
- I'm a Sooner born
- And a Sooner bred,
- And when I die
- I'll be Sooner dead.
- Rah, Oklahoma! Rah, Oklahoma!
- Rah, Oklahoma! O-K-U!

LENO...
This morning I heard Jay say this (paraphrased):
"I was watching a documentary last night about Christmas...I didn't know this...did you know that Mary, Joseph, and Jesus only spent one night in the manger?...yea...only one night...they wanted to stay longer, but the Bethlehem authorities came by and said...
...you folks are gonna have to move along...NO NATIVITY SCENES ARE ALLOWED ON PUBLIC PROPERTY."
